Adopting my cousins daughter??

Question

My cousin's parental right have been terminated and her daughter is with the grandma temprarily.. And we are now looking into possibly adopting her daughter. The grandma wants us to parent and adopt the child. Her daughter is 6 months older than my baby. I am trying to research and find out what we need to do and if we would be able to get subsidies or not for my cousins daughter. This would be an interstate adoption and not sure of the steps to take. The grandma and I are going to talk more in depth next week, but didnt know if anyone else would have any ideas or have been there. We had been researching int'l adoptions and have no knowledge on domestic. Would it be different since we are cousins?

NO,BUT FIRST GET YOU A LAWYER.MY MOTHER JUST ADOPTED MY 2 NIECESAND MY NEWPEW ABOUT 3 YEARS AGO.WERE EVER YOU LIVE GET A LAWYER AND THEY CAN LET YOU KNOW. BUT IF I'M NOT MISTAKEN YOU WILL HAVE TO DO THE ADOPTIVE IN THE STATE WERE THE CHILD IS AT. MY NIECES AND NEWPEW WERE IN THE STATE WERE WE LIVED,BUT THEIR MOTHER WAS IN AL. BUT HER RIGHTS WERE TERMINATED TOO. AND MY BROTHERS TOO..BUT JUST HANG IN THEIR AND JUST THINK OF THE LITTLE GIRLS.

AND ANYTHING TO THE SOCIAL WORKER IF THEIR IS ONE. I HOPE SOME OF THIS HELPS.

have the parents been terminated if not you will have to wait till then.  you can foster your cousins baby thsen go from there.  I am now doing an interstate adoption of my 2 grand daughtrs and both perental rights have been terminated We have had them almost 2 years now   good luck

my mother took my baby cusion in and took care of her like it was her own child but gave her back when her parents got their self together

I live in Los Angeles and am in the process of adopting my husbands nieces daughter. I have four other children. The child is in temporary custody of her grandmother until we have been approved by the state. Our home-study has been completed and approved, we are just waiting for the state to certify our house as "safe". She lives very close to us so we actually have the baby (she'll be two tomorrow) 5 days a week. After we are officially her foster parents we will receive around $800. month until she is eighteen, even after she is adopted. In Los Angeles every child who is in the county system receives this money. You should go on-line to the counties Dept. of Children and Family Services for the State where the child lives. get in contact with the childs case worker immdeiately. Once the parents rights are terminated the child is automatically entered into a national adoption pool. meaning any quilfied person can adopt her.  We are foster parents of a family members kids and in adoption process. they won't terminate parents rights till we get adoption qualified because then someone else could adopt them if they are already qualified.  Family or not...same process in wisconsin. adoption.com has lots of info

i think it would be a great idea! she has to be scared to death and i bet shell love helping you with your baby. its alot better than going to a foster home or living with the grandmother. when she gets older shell be able to treat you like a friend with in my opinion is a great relationship. i would do it if i was old enough its the best thing for the little girl

You will probably get better information if you add which states are involved in the process -  child leaving x state to live in y state.   Good luck!
