  1. If you want to see tourists and 'fake' Irish things, go to Temple Bar.

If you want to really see what it is like in Dublin, buy a one day travel ticket and travel on the DART line or a couple of bus routes.

Stay out of Temple Bar unless you particularly like being over-charged. Go to Hughes' pub behind the Four Courts for 'real' Irish music and dance sessions that Irish people attend.

  2. easiest thing is to do as Kevin suggested, the Dublin bus tour. My cousin is home from Canada and went on it and she said it was fantastic. She was especially impressed with Kilamainham jail..

Loads of bars all over Dublin, if you don't want to get squashed in Temple bar, go up South William Street, or any of the streets of Grafton street. Bruxelles in popular, too, off Grafton street, statue of Phil Lynott outside it., can't miss it.

The Arlington is a laugh too, but it depends on what crowd is in. Always a mixed bag, but you will meet Dubliners in there, more than what you would do in Temple bar.

The Arlington is on the quays, near O'Connell bridge, big hotel, can't miss it

  3. Dublin Bus operates a tour bus.  You pay for a ticket and you can get off and on as much as you like for a 24 hour period.  I think they have like 15 to 20 stops on their tour.  You get a map to help plan what you want to stop at and the like and the driver will give a running commentary on what you pass and the stops as they come up.  Thats the best way to see as much as you can in one day.  Really one day isn't enough though.  I'd say the Book of Kells at Trinity is a must as is the Guinness Brewery.  Other than that the art galleries and cathedrals are good places to visit.  Dublinia is a museum of sorts with a great presentation and some interactive parts on the history of the city and is next to Christ Church Cathedral which is a good tour that also contains some impressive parts of the crown jewels in the basement.   Seeing Trinity, the brewery, Dublinia and Christchurch depending on lines will probably take 6 to 7 hours including time for lunch.  At night go to the Temple Bar district if you like wild exciting bars.  Of you are of the more mellow sort get reservations for the Trad Irish Dance session that goes on nightly at the Arlington Hotel.  Also the Arlington is the only place in the city I can think of off the top of my head open past 1am when they open a late night dance club.  Also, if you take the Dublin Bus idea, for lunch if the weather is nice I'd suggest stopping in a local corner shop, buying sandwiches and eating in St Stephen's Green which is a very large and very nice park along the lines of Central park in new York.  It is located near Trinity College, home of the Book of Kells.

  4. Go to the Guinness Museum

    Go shopping in Grafton street

Go to Croke park to watch a game

  5. Make sure you go to Henry Street and O'Connell Street for the shops!!

    Ehh.... the Guiness Brewery.

    The National Museum.

    Croke Park.

    Leopardstown Races and Shelbourne Park.

Grafton Street and St Stephens Green to feed the ducks (which are now like the fattest ducks in the country).

Go on the Luas, go on an open topped city tour bus.

Get stuck in traffic at the Mad Cow.

Take a trip out to a nearby beach like Donabate.

Get a tattoo "i love ireland" across your face in TempleBar. Go on the D.A.R.T to Bray and climb Bray Head.

    Visit the Shelbourne/Hilton Hotel.

    Infiltrate the RTE television studios.

Go for a swim in the Liffey.

Become truly Irish, and go shopping in Dunnes Stores.

Trinity College and the Book of Kells.

    Go to a Cèilì.

    Walk the Wicklow Way.

    Climb the Spire.

    And..... talk to the locals!

    Have a nice time!!

Ps. Yes, newbridge is great, it has Newbridge Silverware, greyhound racetrack, and the Whitewater.

  6. One day in Dublin, get a good tour boor pick three things in it and decide.  USE THE DART!

Or the tour bus that is a great idea and you are less likely to waste time getting lost.  Although sometimes you have your best travel experiences by being lost.

If you love art, get to the National Art Museum spend your day there.  Have a lunch of sandwiches and stroll Grafton St and Stephens Green.  If you love Museums choose which one of the National Museums to visit and do them well.  Kildare St or the Collins Barracks they both are brilliant.

Where to stay, again I'd go north to Howth, its on the end of the Dart line.  Very safe, very nice, great seafood and a session every night, just ask around and your hosts will tell you.  B&B on Howth I'd stay at Glenn Na Smol, Hotel the Coach House both are quite good.

    Have fun!

  7. If you want to see the real Ireland you have got to get out of Dublin, but if you stay there head for the north side.A good town to visit is Newbridge Co. Kildare and it is only about 30miles away. The craic is good and the people are real (also they are mainly Irish).Hope this helps you.

  8. You must visit Temple Bar and the many pubs there.

See Bono's hotel...the Clarence hotel also in temple bar.

Have a traditional Irish dinner of cabbage, ham and potatoes with mushy peas in The Oliver Saint John Gogarty pub. There's usually traditional music there during the day.

Take a walk up Grafton street where all the posh shops are.

Then walk around St. Stevens Green and feed the ducks.

    Enjoy.
