Advice needed on bulldogs/any dog? ?

Question

hiya, i am considering getting a dog, (my first ever dog!!) i have a 3year old little girl and she would love a dog!) we also have a cat (a mad thing that thinks its a leopard ..he seems to like dogs more than cats) so i am after something child friendly and quite tolerant of cats... from the little bit i know..i was thinking of a english bulldog ..they are meant to be great with kids? and not have too much energy to try and chase and eat the cat?? any opinions please? also does anyone know about a 'bull-boxer' ?? on the whole, do they take after the boxer or the bulldog? ..especially in relation to exercise? do they take after the bulldog who is quite lazy..or the boxer who is quite boisterous?? also (ten questions sorry) ..what is the best way to introduce a dog/cat ?

Well I sincerely hope the 'spotty' one is happy with this? In my experience of having both but favouring cats of course (Love ya Percy) is that you should get the dog first as cats like to be number one and don't take kindly to being pushed out. All pedigrees have their down side and are prone to illness but I would agree the Bulldog might be a good choice as the poor things can hardly breath let alone run! I have had both and the first time I got the dog first and then introduced the cat and they got on great but the second time I got the cat first, then the dog and my cat was distraught and I had to get rid of the dog in the end, (nice home I might add). If your cat is ok with dogs though you will probably get away with it and considering all maybe it's the poor dog that should be worried LOL!!!! I have had a x-boxer, xsheepdog and an English bull terrier and they were all fantastic with my bairns. The English Bull Terrier was great with my cat too but the cat came after him so it can work. Anyway good luck but I would stick to a 'quiet' breed, as some dogs I wouldn't let near anything. Mind if the 'spotty' one gets upset, I have a bed waiting for him beside a roaring fire...:)

I've got a tattoo of one, but that's another story. Why a bulldog can't you get a Jack Russell as they are great around kids and are their size. Boxers can be a bit of a handful but it's your choice at the end of the day. One last thing Jack Russell's are cheap to run.

we own an english bulldog and she is amazing with my daughter. bulldogs are the clowns of the canine world. along with being kind, gentle, loving and loyal they also have a sense of humor. they are happy being with there people either on your lap (yes they do see themselves as a lap dog) or laying quietly near or under your feet. they do play quite energetically as pups but not like some dogs they have "energy spurts" where they may run around for a whole 20 minutes then collapse in a heap and sleep sleep sleep. they can be strong willed but never mean or aggresive, easily trained and love to go to car rides and fairs. they are show stoppers they manage to charm the old and young alike. very tolerant of other animals and love children. but when buying one make sure to go to a reputable breeder as they do have a few known health issue. check out my girlfriends website SHARING THE BEAUTY OF BULLIES alot of really good information on it.

try a german shepherd, we have a one and he is the most loyal dog! he watches and protects the kids, and even loves our cat! Its the only breed that we love! He is a gentle giant, but is so loving and funny. When we talk to him, he wines and howls back, its the cutest thing!

He is a very good dog, and to me is the best breed.

I suggest you to get a boxer, they are tender with children and anyone who has had a boxer can tell you the same.

I believe you should get a boxer instead of a bull-boxer, pure breeds don't bring surprises and that's important when you have a child.

Golden Retrievers.

Golden Retrievers get along with anyone and any animal. They are very animal friendly and child friendly. They are gentle and always paient. They are affectionate, well-mannered, active, family pet. They love to please their owners and extremely intelligent so they are very easy to train. This beed loves to swim also. They grow up pretty big and an average shedder. Goldens need lots of excerise so they need daily long walks. You need to brush ther fur ocasionally and bathe when nessasary.
