Age to Ride?

I haven't seen this question anywhere else, but is there an age limit to ride a train in America? I figured there wasn't but I heard there was. I'm talking about alone without someone older than me. I should be ok.

  1. there's no age limit in the us

  2. You would have to check with the particular railroad operator as to any restrictions they may have.

For example:  while a RR carrier might allow someone under 16 to ride alone, they will want assurance that there will be someone waiting at the destination to meet the youth.

    Amtrak has restrictions:

    Unaccompanied Children

    Childer 15 and Older

Children 15 and older may travel unaccompanied, but do not qualify for any discounts available for children traveling with an adult. Children 15 and older are subject to all policies applying to adult passengers. Minors 15 and older may purchase tickets on their own from a ticket agent or conductor if they present valid photo ID.

    Children 8 to 14

Children 8 to 14 may travel unaccompanied with certain restrictions.

    Children 7 and Younger

Children 7 years old and younger may not travel alone. They must be accompanied by a person 15 years old or older who has responsibility for the child.

Other systems such as subway, light rail generally don't have any restrictions.
