Moving to England with spouse in January and trying to get a basic figure for the housing allowance in the area. I went online to http://usmilitary.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?zi=1/XJ&sdn=usmilitary&cdn=careers&tm=180&f=10&su=p554.12.336.ip_&tt=2&bt=0&bts=0&zu=http%3A//perdiem.hqda.pentagon.mil/perdiem/ohaform.html

to check the average amount we would receive each month. For an E3 overseas it said he would receive about $1700 in OHA. This seems a little high, so i dont know if the website is accurate. If anyone can give me an average about housing allowance overseas and how much we will be allotted each month, it would be great. Anyone with experience would be a great help!!!

  1. You have to calculate the exchange rates into that allowance 1 USD =   0.6717 EUROS  0.5329 GBP

  2. Yes, that is right.  Remember that the pound rate is over 2 to 1.  That's  over 2 dollars for every pound.  Housing is very expensive and very small.  Don't take anything tall because ceilings are very low.  Try to get into housing as soon as possible.  It's usually about a years wait.

Enjoy the UK.  I love it, never wanted to leave!

  3. You are correct, that is about average. I have a E3 cousing at Mildenhall, and he gets 1500 or so. Hope this helps :) Enjoy the UK, I sure did!
