Question:

Aircraft cigarette lighters?

Do commercial airplanes still have cigarette lighters? I am wondering if I can buy a power converter to plug into the cigarette lighter and in turn plug in my laptop for continuous power on a very long trip. Also, I suppose the airplane cigarette lighter would need to be on a 12 volt system. I would be shocked if it was a 12 volt lighter, but I do not know.

Thanks

  1. Not any more.  Better stock up on the batteries.

  2. You would have to be in a pretty old aeroplane to find a cigarette lighter socket. Most owners had them removed years ago. I am a heavy smoker and I would be very surprised if I found a lighter in a modern aircraft. And. trust me, I've looked; really hard.

  3. I travel by plane about 40 times a year, on various airlines, I have never seen a cigarette lighter.
