Question:

Airplanes and Laptops?

Well, my family and I are going on vacation to Aruba for a week, so of course we need to fly there.

So I was wondering...How well do laptops work on airplanes?

Like can you still get Internet connection while on the airplane, and can you charge your laptop's batteries on the airplane?

Thanks!

  1. WiFi on airplanes isn't around just yet.  But you can use it inside the airport and most offer WiFi (sometimes you have to pay for it).  As far as charging, some first class and business class seats have plugs so you can.  The rest of us just have to charge before we get on the plane.

  2. No you cant charge it there are no wall plugs open for the passengers and there is no wifi on planes you shouldnt use those kind of electronic they can cause a disfunction in the planes driving

  3. Wow, lots and lots of uninformed asnwers.

I have yet to fly on any planes with a working WIFI. However, I have flown on planes with built in outlets, right in the seats armrests.

I don't recall what airline, it may have been Continental, just do not recall.

I fly more than I care to. My suggestion is to get a book if the flight is going to be that long. Either that or a spare battery so if the plane doesn't have the outlets you are prepared.

  4. You won't be able to get internet connection on an airplane. Some airlines use to offer it but not anymore due to safety reasons I believe. But you can do other things. You can run your laptop on battery power but that will probably die so you are probably wondering if you can use the plane's power. First thing you must do is look up on www.seatguru.com to see if your airline offers laptop power on your aircraft type. If you are in economy make sure you look at the economy seats (lap top power is represented by a black dot) and if you move your mouse over it it will tell you what kind of power you need (you may need to get adapters, depending on the airline). To answer your other question about charging your laptop's batterie, if your seat does have laptop power, you can plug in but it won't charge the battery. What it does is instead of using the battery power it will run off the plane's power. So if you had 50% battery and plug it into the seat and use it, and unplug it, the battery will still be at 50%.

  5. FAA regs ban wireless devices in flight.  There will NEVER be wifi in flight.  Airlines that do allow internet connections, do so by having you plug an ethernet cable from your machine, to a port in the seat (usually the armrest).  And they charge heavily for that.

If you use your laptop in flight, you will have to turn off all wireless functions.

Electrical outlets are pretty much confined to 1st class or business class.

  6. no you cant charge your laptop on the plane but yu can buy another battery 4 it ...and when yours die just switch it..

  7. I just got home from a trip to Houston about 30 mins. ago.

But they work okay on airplanes. Of course, you don't have Internet connections on the airplane, but you can still play games and Microsoft word, stuff like that. And the only way you can charge your laptop is if it doesn't require a plug. (I'm sure it will)

    Be Safe and Have Fun!

  8. yeah, there isn't internet/wi-fi on planes yet and you still aren't allowed to keep that function on just yet, but some planes have charging ports, while others don't for electronics.  Ok, most don't.
