Question:

Airports in and around New York?

I'm planning a trip to New York and I need to know the distance between the airport and the city. This is mainly for finding out the cost of any transport services between the two. I think JFK is closer but tickets are higher (much higher) than to Newark and I wonder if it would be more cost effective to fly to Newark and take a cab/bus/train?

Thanks :)

  1. Newark is the easier to get into the city by public transportation.

Laguardia is actually the closest, but they dont have a train or subway hook-up. So you either have to take a bus, or a cab. JFK has a subway connection, but it can take a while.

Newark has direct connections with NJ tranist trains. They only take about 20 or so mins to get into the city.

  2. My friend, fly into Newark and take the NJ Transit from the EWR to Penn Station New York. You'll be in NYC in about 15 to 20 minutes and the train fare is $15 one way.

    Good luck

  3. Fly to Newark  and get on the tube to NY, cheap and easy.

  4. LaGaurdia airport is the closest. Its in queens and a 20 min drive to manhatten on the Grand central parkway. Newark isnt that far but your going to hit bad tunnel and bridge traffic and that traffic is usually very brutal.

JFK is like 20 min from lagaurdia and is in Brooklyn but jfk has that new shuttle service which is really good

Lagaurdia is the best option with the closest trains and buses

    Why spend 70?

City cabs have a flat rate inside nyc from airport to city..i think the rate is 40 dollars flat..But trains is only 2 dollars with free bus to train transfer..

    GOODLUCK and enjoy

  5. Just to throw my two cents in, there is an express bus that goes from Newark Airport to Penn Station and the ride is pretty short and I remember it being very cheap (about $13). You can also take the Amtrak train from the Newark air train (about $28). LaGuardia and JFK are a bit closer to the city (about 20-30 minutes), but if it'll save you a substantial amount of money to fly into Newark, that's totally doable. Check out this web site:

  6. I agree LaGuardia Airport in East Elmurst, Queens is closest.

    There are M60, Q33, Q47, Q48, Q72 buses meeting subways to Manhattan.

Second one will be JFK Airport, and Airtrain JFK take you to Jamaica for LIRR, subways E, J, Z and Howard Beach for A train.

Airtrain JFK are very excellent system.

There is also B15, Q3, Q10 bus connect to subway.

Third one will be Newark Airport, and where NJ Transit buses take you to Port Authority or Olympia Trail to Midtown Manhattan.

Fourth one will be Westchester County Airport (HPN), also known as White Plains Airport. This has new airport service operated by Bee-Line bus and called "Airlink". It has luggage rack included.

  7. Fly to newark, much cheaper...Its around $70 from newark to the city in a taxi..

  8. There is also an airport on Long Island, which is where Southwest airlines flies into, which is one of the cheaper airlines around.  From there you can catch shuttle/train combo into the city.  Its reasonably priced, but the schedules are a bit limiting.

There is also Lagurdia, where you can catch a local city bus into the city for only a few dollars.
