Question:

Alabama motorcycle taxes?

Hello. I am considering buying a motorcycle from an out of state dealer (OH). I currently reside in Alabama. The asking price for the bike is 9,999.99. What would the sales tax on said price be for me. I do not truly understand the sales tax system on out of state purchases. Also, on a bike of the same price, what would be the price if I choose to buy it from a local in state dealer? Anyones help in the matter is much appreciated, thanks.

(also, please try to include rough estimates as to title cost, registration, and any other hidden fees i may encounter)

  1. The tax will be the same whether you buy it in-state of out-of-state.  You pay the tax when you tag and title the bike. The State Sales & Use Tax  for autos is 2%, plus whatever the local city and county levy is.  If it totaled 5%, the tax would be $500.  The other fees and property taxes vary widely; consult the county tag office for the fees.
