  1. When you are doing algebra questions, you have to think about how there are two sides to the equation. Whatever you do to the left side of the equation, you MUST do to the right side as well, and vice versa.

    To figure out what any variable means, you have to isolate it. This means you have to get it on its own on either the left or right side of the equation. You are not allowed to have any numbers beside the variable when it is isolated!

    How can we isolate the variable here? We need to get rid of that negative 3.7, right? To get rid of it, you can add 3.7 to the left side of your equation.

    BUT - if you are adding 3.7 to the left side of your equation, you must add 3.7 to the right side of your equation, too! Here's what that looks like:

    y - 3.7 + 3.7 = 6.93 + 3.7

    Simplify this down, and you have:

    y = 6.93 + 3.7 (because negative 3.7 plus positive 3.7 is zero, right?)

    so, y= 10.63.

  2. Add 3.7 to each side to get the value of y

    y - 3.7 = 6.93

    y = 6.93+3.7

    y = 10.63

  3. If you want to figure out what y equals, the only thing keeping you from doing that is the -3.7 so to get rid of subtraction you do the opposite(addition). And whatever you do to one side you must do to the other side.

    y-3.7=6.93

    y-3.7(+3.7)=6.93(+3.7)

    y=10.63

    Hope this helps

  4. y - 3.7 = 6.93

    y = 6.93 + 3.7

    y = 10.63

  5. funny how stupid some people are

  6. add 3.7 to both sides

    y=6.93+3.7

    y=10.63
