If all the aircraft in the sky had to be grounded at the same time so no planes in the sky, would there be enough space in airports to accommodate them - this might or might not include hangars.

  1. There is enough space (technically). However not all of the space is actually meant for regular parking of aircraft. In emergencies they park aircraft on taxiways, but you can only fit so much before you run out of room to maneuver equipment safely. Hanger space is so limited at major airports that it's pretty much negligible.

This is exactly what happened on 9-11. The airports became so clogged, hundreds of planes were diverted or canceled. Many incoming flights never left the ground and thousands of passengers were diverted to Canadian airports.

  2. It already happened in the US. There was plenty of room. Davis-Monothan AFB in Arizona has room for ten thousand planes.

  3. there are enough airports/ aircraft storage places with runways to accommodate every single plane in the world

however, during 9/11 grounding, aircraft were not evenly spread so many east coast airports were overloaded, with aircraft parked at all gates, parking areas and taxiways. After awhile, the airport managers finally realized all the planes wouldn't fit and some were diverted to Canadian airports like CYUL and CYYZ.

  4. Yes. Thats what they did on Sept. 11th.

  5. Already been done, as you already know.

  6. Yes there would be plenty of space, and then some left over. After 9/11 happened all U.S. Air travel was suspended, and all aircraft were grounded. There are enough airports in the world to accommodate all aircraft.

  7. Yes, there's room for all aircraft at the airports, and as mentioned the grounding of all aircraft on Sept. 11th is proof.

There is not enough hangar space available during normal operations to house even the normally based aircraft at most airports. At most airports only a small fraction of aircraft can be hangared.

  8. Yes....just as there was on 911 when they grounded all aircraft in the USA.  They had plenty of room to park all the planes.

  9. yes
