  1. I suggest you serve as an apprentice/assistant to a professional photographer for at least 2 years. As you learn about the photography side, learn about the business side.

Take classes in business and entrepreneurship. Use the resources available from the Small Business Administration. Try to find a member of S.C.O.R.E. (Service Corps Of Retired Executives) as a mentor.

Subscribe to at least 2 photography magazines. Read every article about successful professional photographers.

Begin developing your own style. Although you may find yourself imitating others  eventually you'll start trying your own ideas.

There is more to professional photography than just owning a Nikon D3 or Canon EOS 1Ds Mark III.

  2. REMEMBER - A business in photography is just about taking good pictures.  That's only half of it.  The other half is knowing how to run a business.

  3. First you need to get a good camera. Not just one of the little ones but one of the big ones. You have to decide what kind of camera a digital or one of the old ones with actuall film in it. most likely you'll want a digital camera. Those are a little easier and seem more cost effective at the end unless you develope you own film witch is a really neat process. I took photography in highschool and i had to develope my own film it took a while but the things you could do with the catual negavites were so cool. Then I got to collage and i took another class but with digital cameras instead. The digital carmera seems to be a little easier to work with for some people. I like the cannon 10D but there are may different kinds. It all depends on what you want in a camera.

Hope it helps, and good luck.
