ok so i have an Alpine head unit(CDA 9827 18w x 4

two factory 6 1/2s in the front....two eclipse 6 by 9s in back.

i have 4 guage power and ground wires (ground is maybe 9 inches long) power wire is probably 12 feet........

amp is the Alpine MRD M1005....i have one dual 2 ohm Alpine type r wired in series for a 4 ohm load which should be 500 watts rms(which is what the type r is rated at)..its a 12" in a 1.25 cubic foot ported q logic hatchback style box and as far as i know thats an ideal box size for it............my rcas are running off the SW (subwoofer) jacks from the back of the head unit to the amps input jacks...i even grounded my head unit with some 10 guage wire just for the h**l of it.....my amp ground is bolted solid with paint scraped....however it seems i have to turn gains and bass boost nearly all the way up to get the power and sound quality i want...the sound quality without the amp and sub is c**p and i cant hardly put any bass into the component speakers

  1. Well, you've only got your sub amplified.  You've got stock speakers in the place that matters and some other c**p speakers in the back deck.  You may also have some phase issues going on which is why you're not getting any midbass/bass out of your non sub speakers.

Replace your front speakers with some decent speakers and amplify them.  Leave your rear speakers running off the deck or just remove them all together.  Make sure all your speakers are in phase with each other.  Make sure you're gains are set correctly.  Make sure your sub is in phase with your inside speakers.

If you do all this, you should have a great sounding system.  Also, stay away from oval speakers.   They suck.  Get round speakers, even if they're smaller.  i.e., a 5.25" speaker where your 6.5" speakers are ...  that's just an example.

  2. Sounds to me that you need an experience person to adjust your sound.A huge part may be in just adjusting the head units 0r adding a electronic crossover system.

Also ditch the factory 6 1/2's and replace them with Aftermarket...then run an amp to your aftermaket doors(front and rear).Amplifying your mids and highs makes a heck of a difference in sound.(I reccomend CDT audio or Focal or Boston Acoustics for HIGH END)

As far as having to turn the gains all the way up....that doesnt seem right for that size of an amp.If you can,try another amp maybe from a friend and see what kind of difference it makes.

Another huge problem is Alpine Type R subs or speakers are not that great and are actually over rated.....they are only popular because of their name...Alpines BIGGEST advantage in the car audio industry is really Their cd/tuner/head units and coming in 2nd would be the older alpine amps.

Other than that,YES....there speakers are just mediocare at best....( people wont like this answer)In my opinion anyway.I switched to CDT and Focal and they sound absolutely superb with my alpine CDA 9885.

Good luck and have a look over the Cd players manual for better adjusting(if your not sure) but Most definately get a amp for the front and rear.
