  1. If your from the UK somtimes the employer has to pay a certain amount if you need glasses.  But only if you need glasses for the computer (because this is what you use at work).

you can get vouchers from your employer to pay towards the eye test and some also offer glasses vouchers.

But it really does depend on the employer.

  2. Where are you?

In the UK, for people whose work involves computer or VDU use for 16 or more hours a week, any employer has to pay for a regular eye test and, if glasses are required *different* from those needed for normal purposes, they must pay for the cost of basic glasses to meet that need, however complex or expensive the lenses are.

The wearer generally has the option to make up the difference, if designer frames are wanted.

    But for other countries..?

That will be down to employment legislation and individual company benefits.

  3. Check with Human Resources where you work.  No employer is obliged to pay for your eye test but partial reimbursement of eye care expenses may be part of your benefit package.

  4. If you work with computers, your employer will pay for a yearly eye-test.  The cost of the glasses is down to you.

  5. two things.

    1) its a myth that computers cause bad eyesight, same with wearing a rx that isn't right for you or sitting too close to the tv. Even though it has been thouroghly disporoven, it is still perpetuated as truth by so many.

    2) in general, no. The employer is not required to pay for the exam or glasses. They may have a policy stating that they cover such things as a perk or a benefit.

Their my be local laws that stae as such but this would be the exception to the rule.

  6. Unfortunately, I don't believe the employers are required to provide anything.  It depends on the laws where you reside. Here, employers offer health and sometimes vision insurance with to get examined and in some cases, be provided with all or a portion of the cost of the glasses.  I have written letters to for my patients to their employers asking for larger terminals and glare screens.  This has helped some of our patient.  Beyond that, the glasses and exam are up to you and your insurance coverage (such as that may be).

  7. Hi

Do you have health insurance thru your employer? How about vision insurance as a supplemental.

I suggest talk to your employer and go for lasik screening. May be they can arrange some sort of financing.

  8. Employers aren't obligated to pay for all or part of eyeglasses. Insurance varies depending on the company and the place where you get them. Usually the glasses you can get "free" as paid for by insurance are not the most stylish!! And contact lenses they won't cover at all (unfortunately for me) because they are considered "cosmetic." So... good luck!!
