Im a 21 year old girl and 1 of side teeth is crooked. I'm very self conscience when I smile and I would love if it was straightened...But I feel I am too old to get braces because it's usually young teenagers that I see with them before they reach adulthood. If I did get braces, how long would I need to wear them before my tooth is straightened? Less than a year? Or more??

  1. I am almost 30 and I'm getting braces in 2 days...no, you're not too old!

  2. i saw an older woman about 50 or 60 wearing hot pink braces so i don't think you will be too old

  3. no but for a 21 year old try and talk to your ortho about invisiline

  4. You aren't too old at all! I'm not sure how long it would take, but you could do invisalign or something so that nobody could tell you were wearing them. I think it would probably depend on if you need to move other teeth to straighten those few. I think that it would be better to go through a year or two of braces rather than a whole life of a tooth that makes you miserable. =]

  5. You are never too old for braces. My friend, a 42 year old mother of two just got her braces off last month and is thrilled that she did it. Adults wearing braces is very common these days and there is no physical reason that an adult can't have orthodontic treatment.

As for how long you would need braces.... it could be six months it could be three years. This is different for every individual. It is something only an orthodontist can estimate after he/she has studied your teeth and determined what type of movement is needed to achieve the results. At that time they will also be able to tell you what type of orthodontic treatment is an option for your case, ie. Invisalign, traditional braces, removable appliances, etc. Schedule a consult with an orthodontist and they will be able to advise you from there.

    Good luck!

  6. You are never too old to get braces.

  7. I have had many patients on their 30's and 40's who have braces on or are getting them on soon. It is never too late to get braces if you have healthy strong teeth and good home care. Many adults don't get braces because they feel embarrassed to have the "brace face" look at that stage in life, but it can still be very functional. And you are only 21. My best friend is 25 and has them and she will be out of them in a year with perfect teeth. Also, there is Invisaline now, which if you are a disciplined person, will work just as well as regular braces. The typical time frame for braces is about a year and half to two years. If you are mainly trying to get just one tooth rotated, you won't be in for a long time. Talk to your dentist about orthodontic options. Some general dentist specialize in Invisalign, so if yours does, talk to him about that. Also, your general dentist will have names of orthodontists they work with that they recommend. For your age though, I would say look into Invisaline.
