Newcastle United striker Shola Ameobi says that he is grateful for the start that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alan-c4244 Pardew gave him after he helped the Magpies cruise to a 0-3 victory against Bordeaux last night in the Europa League.
The veteran striker was delighted at proving his worth after putting Newcastle ahead in the Europa League Group D win over Bordeaux.
Ameobi captained Newcastle last night as he led from the front and gave the visitors the lead. The striker probably scored the easiest goal of his career as he tapped the ball into an empty net after some impressive work by former Bordeaux player Gabriel
Obertan.
Brazilian defender http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Henrique-c16069 scored an own goal, which was unfortunate for the hosts. This was shortly followed by an absolute screamer from Senegalese striker Papiss Demba Cisse, which sealed all three points for the Magpies.
The 0-3 victory delighted manager Alan Pardew, who finally saw his team round off a convincing performance. Newcastle have failed to live up to the expectations that were placed on them after last season’s impressive 5th place finish, and have
not managed a convincing win since the new season started.
The club had also faced a growing list of injury troubles, which further hindered their progress in the league and domestic cup competitions. However, Pardew believes this recent victory will finally help them kick start their season.
Ameobi, who has been with the club for the past decade, was delighted to have handed his side the lead. He was grateful to his manager for giving him the chance to start the game and was happy to have repaid his confidence with a goal.
Speaking to the press after the game, the player said:
"As a striker you want to get off the mark as quickly as possible at the start of the season. I’m just delighted to get a chance there today. The strikers at the club are doing very well at the moment and I have to take my chances when I get them.”
"I just thank God that the chance fell to me and I couldn't have scored an easier goal. The team was fantastic.''
