Do Americans say the word 'twice' instead of 'two times'? I'm just wondering because my dad says to me 'why don't they say twice instead of saying two times' and i said to him they might not use that as part of their vocabulary so just thought i'd ask lol

Thanks :) x

  1. Both expressions are used with equal frequency.

Your Dad needs a different hobby. (Just kidding.)

  2. We say twice, it's easier and faster than saying two times.

  3. Americans would say two times as apposed to twice

  4. I don't doubt what your father is saying about some Americans saying "two times" although I live in the Pacific Northwest, I'm almost 60, and have heard people here say only "twice" most of the time.

Nevertheless, there has been a natural tendency for irregular forms to disappear in the English language  since Chaucer's time (c. 1370). This means that the form "two times" might replace "twice" in English everywhere someday.

  5. Don't know for sure. We are two nations separated by a common language, well almost common!

  6. Americans use both. Is that all English people do is wonder about why Americans say this that way or spell that this way?

  7. I think you will find most English speaking places say twice. I can't ever remember anyone saying two times in the UK either

  8. I think they say 'twice over'.

  10. We say twice more but also say two times

  11. We say twice more than two times, both are commonly used though.
