I need to book a hostel for 2nights in July and i was wondering would the best option be to wait till i get there and go to a tourist office and ask them to book me and my friend in somewhere?? Most of the hostels need a three night stay and are expensive!

  1. Wait till you get there. Upstairs in Amsterdam Centraal Station (Train Station) there is an office for tourists. Tell them how much you want to spend and how long you want to stay. They find you a room, give you a map and directions and sort out the tram ticket too!!!!

In the airport, it is just a table with various hotel leaflets and cards and is a DIY service so go to the train station instead.

  2. Have been to amsterdam a few times and have always stayed in the bicycle hotel, it's not 5* but I like it!  If you google it and then phone or e-mail them to book, it's not in the centre of amsterdam so doesn't get booked up as quickly as other places but it is within walking or cycling distance of the main centre.

  3. I stayed at a hostel called The Bulldog in the red light district and it was awful.  The actual hostel was OK, but the staff couldnt have cared less about the people staying there...but there is a St. Christophers there and i have stayed at a few other St. Christophers locations in London and they were awesome!

  4. http://www.campingzeeburg.nl

This is on an island in A'dam harbour at the end of a tram route.

They allow camping but have 2 & 4 berth chalets as well.

Camping €5.00 per day and chalets from €30 per day.

It is v nice, they have ducks, goats and chickens running about the island, internet access, a laundrette, bar and a shop.

    It is good.

  5. google it.but amsterdam hostels get booked fast.if you look on the internet.you can get a twin room for not much more in a hotel.than what you would pay in a hostel.

  6. Ok so I live close to A'dam and am not an expert on the hotels there (no need for them!), but I do know Amsterdam!

Do not wait until you get there.  Yes you can go to the VVV (tourist info office) but (a) it will be busy and (b) there will be no guarantee that any accomodation will be available, and then you are left with the choice of paying for an expensive hotel, or the local park bench which is not an appealing option!

First of all try this site for availability http://www.hostelworld.com/.  It is recommended in this section time & again by people who come often to A'dam.  I checked for e.g. 18th & 19th July and there is availability for a good price, and two nights only are not a problem.

Then in order to get an unbiased review, then try a site such as Tripadvisor http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotels-g18859... where people put their comments about hotels - both good and bad.  It's independant and the comments are very honest, so you will get a fair idea of what to expect

Like I said, do a bit of homework up front and then you won't have to worry about where to stay if you have it pre-booked

    Good luck
