Annoying 5 year old neighbor.?

My apartment is in a 3 family house, and the house next door is also. We have an huge amazing backyard that we definatly take advantage of. Problem is the girl next door. They have a deck and it levels with the top of our 6 foot fence, and they have 2 balconies. Well this girl won't leave me, or my fiance alone every time we go out side. We have a puppy so she talks about him alot or whatever else and asks me a million personal questions.

she constantly nags me to come over, I always say no. I just don't have time! I like kids and all, but I want privacy. She will sit there for whole time we are out askng questions! Her family is nice, and have asked her to come in only once or twice. I was laying out with the dog yesterday and came in becasuse she is so annoying.

She asked to come over a million times, and finally I said. "Listen (name), when somebody says no you need to stop asking"

My fiance says to ignore her, but then she sits and stares. And then starts talking again!

She's only a little child you have to understand that's typical five year old behavior to constantly nag.  Try asking the little girl's parents if they'd be kind enough to take her to the park or something to give you a break from being constantly bothered by a small child.

all you can do is politely ask her to leave, you could say sweetie, i know you'd really like to chat right now, but this is the only time i have to relax and i would like to do it outside and have some quiet, maybe we can chat next time? and if that doesn't help then talk to her parents, you can ask them nicely to give you some space sometimes, i'm sure she is just bored and curious, but enough is enough, i'm sure you can just ask her nicely and she can get the point. good luck

That's a toughie.  I think after as much as you've had to deal with, I'd be talking to the mom about instructing her daughter on personal space.

Annoy the mother in the same way every day by telling her about how annoying the kid is it will stop soon.

also a super soak-er loaded with vinegar does a good job

You can try talking to the Mom and she can tell the girl to stop pestering you, but at 5 she probably doesn't have the impulse control... Odds are Mom has been listening to her prattle for hours and is relieved she is out on the balcony.

The best solution is a higher fence.

Second best is to ignore her.  Tell her you will answer 3 questions at the beginning and then you will have quiet time.  Then put music on and ignore her, no matter what!  Eventually, she may get bored and go away.  

You could talk to Mom and propose a reward system.  Each time she limits her questions and doesn't stare, she gets a star and 7 stars equals a lollipop or a 15 minute game of hopscotch with you.... You'd need to OK the reward with mom.

Yeah, that sucks for you. A five year old doesn't know about personal space or cares about your privacy. She is probably bored.

Your fiance is right, ignore her. However, she won't go away and you will need to move or go inside to get away from her.

I think a 5 year old is mature enough to understand that you need some space.  In a very kind way, I would explain to her that while you understand how very much she enjoys playing with your puppy, there are times when you want to spend time alone with the dog and/or your fiance.  I would also tell her that because your "area" is your special place for alone time, you would like her to wait until you invite her over to play. If she persists in asking, you can simple say, "Not today - today is my alone time."

This way you've acknowledged that you understand her wants and you've also spelled out your needs.  If she continues, I would suggest talking to her with her mother present - in that way, the child will be reminded how important this is to you and the parent will, too.

I would call the mother and say... "hello. I dont want to sound rude but your daughter will not leave me alone! I need privacy and she is always over here! Once again i dont want to be rude but i need alone time! She could come over once in a while but not everytime i turn around" See where it goes from there
