When I am taping, do I fill the jont with mud and tape right away?? Or do I fill the joint, let it dry and then tape?? I know if the gap is greater than 1/8" I should fill the joint and let it dry.

Any suggestions??

  1. normaly you mud it them tape it and then put mud on it again to get the air bubbles out.also if the gap is a little bigger you can use a mesh tape it is also sticky on one side.it has little squars it it.

  2. All at one time. I never let the mud dry, no matter what the gap) before taping. Then again, I don't ever work with gaps that big.

  3. Typically you mud then tape and mud over the tape immediately.  If there is an unusually large gap, 1/4" or more, mud first then allow it to dry.  Once dry, mud then tape as usual.

  4. Tape, then mud.

  5. apply a thin layer of mud to the joint and tape over it right away...if the mud dries any the tape is not going to stick....stick the tape in place and then press into place with your taping knife.....let it dry before adding another layer of mud......using a mesh tape requires to laying the tape in a layer of mud....it just sticks to the wall....much faster when taping....do not use mesh in the corners...use paper tape in corners.... use a fast setting mud to fill any large gaps in the drywall before taping...1/8 inch is not big ....1/2 or bigger should be filled and dried before taping....get yourself a fast setting 20 min mud.......drywall for the last 15 yrs
