Another horse?

Bonjour, Y!A Horse Community!

Well, I know that there is a lot of experience on this board, so I thought I'd ask for your advice.

We currently have 6 horses. We got 2 of them within the last week. We have had the other 4 for awhile now. They all live on our land, and we are getting a beautiful new 12 stall barn with tack room, arena, wash stalls, etc. built on our farm this summer, it should be finished by the end of August.

Anyways, my mother came home last night and she told me about one of the ladies from work who is looking to downsize her herd of horses. She told me that she went out to her ranch and saw a horse that would be "absoloutely perfect" for me. She wants me to go out and ride it tomorrow afternoon. My dad is an equine vet, so he's already agreed to go out tonight and give it a pre-purchase vet check. I'm definitely excited at the idea of getting a new horse, but we just got 2 new ones this week! We had already bought them about 2/3 months ago, though. More...

  1. You might want to hire some part time help with the time consuming chores, stalls, etc  so that it leaves you the time that you need to devote to the horses themselves..if you are lucky, you just may get someone who can/will also do some exercising for you as well...good luck, you seem quite responsible and no matter what, I'm sure that you will find a way to make sure that they get everything that they need.

  2. well, you have some more time in the summer, and that helps. if your neighbours are going on vacation, tell them that you will exscerscise their horses and take care of them while theyre away if they would help you train the horse. during the school year, you could spend an hour on one horse a day, and alternate days. that may help. i would take the horse, unless you dont like him. if you dont, ill take him!

  3. READ WHOLE THING!

Ok well if your rich or not, it doesnt matter one bit in your situation. In your case it could be an issue that your rich. Your parents will just keep buying them for you. That would suck. Anyways I wouldnt get one. This is how you become spoiled. Not saying you are just saying that if you keep getting things that your not sure about, you will want everything etc. So no you have enough. And if you can afford everything, higher a trainer and a stable hand. Then you would have time for every horse. Oh and add in an extra horse in there for me. JK. LOL.  But yes I would not get the other one as good as it may sound.  Yes I know how the whole social life is. I have millions of friends and i have horse stuff and dance!!!!!! AHHH over welming!

  4. Could you sell another one to make room for this one?  Your schedule won't allow much time for one horse, let alone 3.  Why do you buy them...to train and sell?  You have 4 people, everyone works, and two are going to school, so when is there time for all of the horses?

  5. You could work out a schedule for during the school year when you could train what horse and for how long. This would be a good idea. I had to do that when I was working on a farm that had like 30 horses and half of them needed to be trained and ridden. I would go out 4 times a week and work on a horse and if I had time I would work on another.

  6. If you can trade one of your horses or resist. But yea go for it if it's perfect.

  7. go for it and if money isnt an issue do what we did with our lot and hire somebody to look after them either every day or on certain days so all you have to do is the nice bits like grooming riding and training and making a fuss of them.  hope this helps x

  8. Weather you are rich or not, you don't have time for it and that's not fare to it or the other two new ones.  But then again if you can "afford anything" then get a trainer to come in and help you.

  9. Way to go for being responsible!  If you feel like you might not be able to care for it, talk to your family to see how they feel.  If your mom and dad are willing to take time off to help, work out how you could all take care of them.  Unless you know that you are going to be able to care for all of the horses, don't get a new one!

  10. Curious to know why you want it if you have 6 already and 2 are new?

  11. I would say just go ahead and get it. You will find the time to work with all of them and once you get them trained, keep the one you want and find (the others) a good home to make another child happy. You have a big heart. Have fun, Good Luck.
