Question

I made my debut a day after my 20th birthday

Spanning over 3 years & 2 months, my first six test innings fetched me just 1 run.

My next test recall will come only after a gap of 3 years.

I scored my first test century 3 days short of my 27th birthday.

My first international wicket is that of Asif Mujtaba, and he was my last as well.

I had a controversial end to my career.

The player is Marvan Atapattu of Sri Lanka.

He debuted in 1990. His first five innings were ducks, and he got a single in his sixth innings. In fact he didn't score more than 29 in his next 11 innings. He finally hit his first Test century in his 10th match, against India, seven years after his debut.

He faced a 'cash in the bedroom allegation which was eventually cleared.He was not selected for the SL World Cup team in 2007 and was even left out for the Australian tour in 2007-08. He was later asked to join the team, but labelled the selectors as 'a set of Muppets, basically, headed by a joker'. He retired at the end of the series and currently also plays for Delhi in the rebel ICL (which anyway means the deathknell for current players)!!!

About the bowling twist, I could only find that he took Asif Mujtaba's wicket in his very first test and he even bowled in his first five tests only. After that, throughout his career, he never bowled. He bowled a total of 8 overs in these 5 tests, out of which 4 were in the first test, where he gave 9 runs for his lone wicket. Couldn't find anything other than that.

Actually, searching for this answer gave me a lot of new insights into the character of this batsman, whom I had admired for some time. It takes a lot of character to come up after 5 ducks in your first five innings and build up a position in the team as he did.
