I open the dishwasher, and there are ants. It seems they are hiding in the little drain area. Sometimes they are outside the dishwasher, but close to it. How could they possibly get in there??? Is there a link from the outside to the drain pipe?? Help! 10 pts for good answer!

  1. this remindas me of a problem i had with ants getting in my fish tank , they are attracted to the water for a drink , you need to pull the dishwasher out of its spot and clean the floor and around the enclosure with bleach and water then spray a half can of raide under there push the maching back in its place , then clean the floor with bleach and water , spray some more raid , then go around under the cabinets and across the door sills and near the base of the wall with some raid ... air the room out for a day or two , this is what i did and its kept the ants away

  2. I see this often. The reasons they are at the dishwasher are as follows:

    water

    warmth

    harborage

    easy access to crumbs

How they can get in there: They can be traveling from outside, through a gap in the outside of your house, into a wall, follow the pipes, and pop out there. Or, you could have a nest located within your house.

You didn't ask how to get rid of them.  =)

  3. The drain should run from under the dishwasher to under the sink. Take a look .Take off the kick plate on the front of the Dishwasher and use bug spray
