Any Good books to read?

I was wondering if any of you knew any good fiction books taking place in the Pacific Rim (besides US) that are for middle school students level? Please help me! Thanks

How about A Single Shard, by Linda Park?  It was a Newbery Award winner in 2002.  It's set in 12th century Korea and is about an orphan boy struggling to survive.

Or there's Kazunomiya, Prisoner of Heaven, Japan 1858  by Kathryn Lasky, about a Japanese princess.  It's one of the Princess Diary series.  I haven't read that one, but Lasky is a good writer.
