I've been swimming for 3 months for my high school, and I'm a freestyler. My times are

50 free- 32.83 sec

100 free- 1.15.85 sec

Also, what is an average/okay time for the 200 free?

  1. Is this long course or short course, cause those are like IDENTICAL to my long course times.

You would probably swim a 2:45.00 to a 2:50.00 some where in there, based on your 100 and 50. Don't go out too easy! A 200 is relatively short! :)

  2. AH you asked the perfect question for me to answer.  I was just like you about some odd four years ago.  I started swimming competitively a couple of months before my freshman year.  My time in the 200 free was like a 2:25 or something like that.  Four years of really hard work got me down to a 1:54.  My secret was to build the 200. The first 50 is always the smoothest..and diving off the blocks makes it easy to swim the first leg.  The second 50 you try harder than the first.  The 3rd 50 you pretty much sprint all that you have.  And the 4th 50 takes guts because you sprint on home.  My advise practice practice practice.. it will pay off :D

  3. Pull long and strong breathe every one, other or three. Keep a 6 beat kick (3 kicks ea. leg per armpull) build every 25 after the first 50 last 50 all out.

  4. These times look close to my swim times. (Except for the 100, but that's my average time if I don't try)

How to swim an effective 200 free:

1st 50:stretch out arms, don't use legs too much

2nd 50: Begin to kick lightly, stretch out arms

3rd 50: Usually the 3rd 50 is the slowest. Pick up kick to borderline sprint.

4th 50: Over kick, kick very hard and sprint hard.

My fastest time for the 200 is 2:52.

Depending on your age this should be a standard for your swimming and your goal times.

  5. i do the 200 as well

i was always taught that i should try and match my first 50 and my last 50 in time

then my middle two at a moderate pace (what ever your moderate pace is in relation to your times) but give your last 50 your all. i pulled ahead by 3 body lengths on my last 50 to get a silver.

my best recent time for my 200 is about a 2:31 (i might have had slower or faster)

    GOOD LUCK :-)

  6. I'm used to guy's times so there could be some inaccuracies in this but a normal 200 yard freestyle for a guy (for any swimmer on the team) would be around a 2:20 so for girls a normal 200 would probably be around 2:40 maybe, again I'm more familiar with guy's times (but high school anyways) but 2:40 sounds about right.
