  1. There are quite a few Americans living in NZ. Our experiences vary depending on where we live and what we bring to the table when we arrive. You can check out a couple of websites, like www.move2nz.com for a more positive outlook, and expatexposed.com for the dirty underbelly.

    The most important thing to remember is that while NZ may look familiar and the people speak (mostly) the same language, things here are different. Culturally, NZ is different. People have different standards and react to each other socially in a different way than in the US. It can be tough to acclimate.

    NZ is much slower than I expected and, as an American, you'll have to learn to slow down. You won't be able to afford all the little luxuries you have in the US because everything is expensive. Gas is $1.75 a liter, that's about $7.00 a gallon.


  2. The pace is slower, so I have to slow down to match the Kiwi pace. Other than that, nothing. Kiwis like Americans are really dumb. They know nothing outside their cocoon.
