  1. I personally prefer Kayak but both have their own Merritt. canoes are more cumbersome for one person so are harder to carry

  2. Open tops are much more expensive.

You can get a fibreglass canoe on ebay for £20.

If you are after a starter boat, the deciding factor is location because you have to get it hoem somehow !

  3. Best wait till our guys get back from the Olympics. They'll be able to help. Me? Haven't a s****..

  4. Both have their purpose. A kayak is easier to portage, a canoe can carry more payload (people, gear, whatever).

  5. Kayaks are better. not quite as easy to hop in and out and  cant take passengers but for ease of personal use are a much better bet. you will find lots of clubs around for theses( kayaks) training is available too and safety is important. a good kayak can be used and last for years. take far too long to explain al the in's and outs such as sea kayaks etc.

why not seek out local club and pop along with your questions they will I am sure be delighted to offer advise for free and possibly free aides etc on how to best use one ( oars etc) good luck.

  6. Not sure,  but Panama is a long way, so do take some good paddles and a GPS so you dont get lost.

Take plenty of food to because it may take a few years to get there

  7. Waldo, it depends on  what  you want to do with the boat. Kayaks are OK for one person to paddle around. If you are going to camp or fish or take someone along with you, use a canoe. Just give this project some thought and you will be OK.

    Dan
