My Charging system light has been coming on alot today and sometimes it stays on for a few minutes. It just started today. In my book it says there could be a problem with the electrical charging system and could indicate that I have a loose generator drive belt or another electrical problem. Are either of those things expensive to fix? I'm broke!

  1. If you are broke, everything is expensive.

The belt is about $15 at most.  The install is less than 1 hour labor.

The charging system is integral to the alternator and you would have to change the alternator. The parts could be cheap if the car was "regular" car (no luxury).  If it was luxury car line then the parts will probably be expensive (few hundred for parts and labor).

    good Luck..

  2. Make sure your battery cables/connections are clean.

  3. Could be any number of things, the cheapest would be a new belt
