  1. Use the GPS receiver to get you within about 10m of the coordinates.  Stop following the GPS receiver and start using your eyes.  The error of your GPS receiver and the hider's GPS receiver mean the cache could be anywhere within about 10 meters of the coordinates.  Look for anything that looks out of place or disheveled.  Also take note of the container size and look for hiding places that would accommodate such a container.  It also pays to check out the geocache on aerial photography so you know where to park your car and possibly which trails to take to the cache.  Focus on regular-sized containers with low difficulty ratings while you are a beginner.  Micros can be very small (as small as the tip of your little finger) and difficult to find.  Once you have a few finds under your belt, you can move on to smaller and more difficult caches.  You may also want to look at the logs for geocaches near your home and see who is a very prolific geocacher.  You could try contacting them to see if they wanted to show a newbie how things are done.  You may also have a local geocaching club or organization near you.  Such organizations organize group geocaching outings and occasional events where geocachers convene to swap stories, share a meal, or even help to remove trash from a park.
