My sons just started skiing, I used to ski alot, but I blew out a knee and cant take the twisting any more. I wanted to be able to get out on the snow with my sons, so I took a lesson and did two days of boarding. It felt great to be back out on the snow. So I was thinking that to avoid the hastle of renting I might try to pick up a used setup. I know nothing about boards, so I figured I would ask if there was anything special to avoid in a used board and/or Bindings.

  1. i wud say the same thing dont get step in which u can tell what the look like cause the step ins almost level with the face of the board they are just big pieces of metal. i wud also really look for deep scratches if its not deep only surface its fine as long as u dont care and not a lot of divits dings etc either make sure that its not peeling apart from the different layers. everything he said.

One more thing though i wud get a board that is the right riding style 4 u get and all mountain board so u can do everything dont buy a park board unless u plan on jumping and doing rails and boxes all day. HOPE THIS HELPED:)

  2. Don't buy step in bindings.  A lot of used snowboards seem to come with them for some reason, but from some experience and friends experiences with them they're horrible.  They get a big chunk of ice under the boot that doesnt alow the binding to catch and is a pain in the butt to get off, which wastes time, and sometimes dont catch right and fall off mid-run. Also dont give the best control from what ive heard.

Also, check the edges and bottom of the board.  This might seem obvious, but you want to check for scratches for sure. Also look for marks that look like they might have been covered with ptex, because there are some crappy home garage fix-it-yourselfers otu there who might do a half-assed fix to try and hide such scratches before selling.
