  1. Walnut is highly prized for its dark-colored true heartwood. It is heavy and strong, yet easily split and worked. Walnut wood has historically been used for gunstocks, furniture, flooring, paddles, coffins, and a variety of other woodworking products. Due to its value, forestry officials often are called on to track down walnut poachers.  Not sure how much you have, but you can use this to calcuate the value:  a 55 foot tree  that my cousin had to cut down last year was worth $2500.

  2. Black walnut is one of the most expensive American woods on the market.  It is used extensively in the furniture, cabinetry, and firearm industries.  The dark heartwood is the most valuable part of the tree, so older larger trees are more valuable.  Here's a link to a site that sells walnut lumber.

  3. It's quite good for wood carving as it's fairly hard and has a interesting grain. Not many people are into wood carving these days though so it might be hard to find anyone who wants it let alone is willing to pay for it!
