You should read "The Extraordinary and Unusual Adventures of Horatio Lyle" by Catherine Webb.

It might look like a mystery/adventure book but it has fantasy in it too.

Magicians is a great book by Trudi callivan. Also you could read the apprentice. Both great fantasy books. My favourite might be The emperor.
