I have another 3 years left until I can start driving, I'm saving for my first car, I was thinking of a second-hand 53-reg mondeo.

What would you buy on a budget of £6000

Remember the car will be bought in 2011

I am thinking of something medium sized that looks good and is cheap to run.

Here is what I am thinking of:

Can you suggest anything else?

  1. Since you're looking at Ford's and it seems like your in the UK, the car that you have selected could be a good choice. But do realize that the older the car the more you have to spend to maintain it. And since you have 3 years, save up and by a nice car. Something like a Honda or a japanese make. They run better, are more gas efficient and the up keep isn't way expensice.

My first car was a 2001 Honda Civic LX. I just traded that in to get a Lexus, and I must say that I miss that car. The gas mileage was great, and as long as you get it serviced when you should just like any other car, there's no problem.

Shop around, save up. Hope this helps!

  2. you can buy a decent used BMW 3series. At 2011, u may be thinking about at 2005-2007's BMW at £6000. i had a 1993 BMW 3series, and it is 170000 and it is still absolutely fine. Nice quality BMW. good luck.

  3. All lame, buy a bike.

    :)

  4. Buy a Honda Civic EX Coupe.  You'll have almost zero maintenance problems and it gets great mpg.  And if you know how to tune a car, Civics are easy to boost horsepower.

  5. You probably dont want to here this, but a fiat uno. Built like a tank. cheap insurance. and too slow to get hurt in. but they are built by the same company that own ferrari.A Mondeo is probably a bit big for a first car.

  6. With the way gas prices are looking to sky rocket between now and then its best you focus on a smaller economical car. Hybrids would be the best choice but they are expensive so the best decision would be to get a reliable car such as Nissan Sentra, Toyota Corolla, or Honda Civic. They are great small, cheap, economical cars good for getting you from Point A to Point B. Whatever you do Stay away fromt he Hyundai's and Kia's!!!

  7. I can see your a beemer fan by your name. So am I...nice cars. But in 2011 you can get a lot nicer cars for 6,000. Probably even a BMW 325 E90...under an 05 plate. But your insurance will be sky high. Though £6,000 gets you a good car...I would advise you get a diesel though...especially on a medium sized car. Engines are stronger, it pulls better (more torque) and it consumes a lot less.

Stay away from the Mondeo...go for the VW Passat. Will hold it's resale better and is a far better car quality wise in every respect...engine, gearbox and materials used.

    Something like this:

In 2011 that car will be worth about 6k

p.s. Forget Japanese cars..bland, boring...old people's cars. I made the mistake of buying a brand new Toyota Avensis when it came out..I was fooled by everyone saying Toyota were good. They are not. The car had loads of problems...changed the headlamps 5 times, steering rack changed etc etc. It drove like c**p....buy German. Trust me. They know how to make cars...look at F1. Where are Mercedes and BMW? Now ask yourself...where is Honda and Toyota? Exactly. Japanese cannot compete with Germans in car making and F1 is proof.

By the way...I advise you to not spend all the 6k on your first car...buy a car which you don't mind denting and is as cheap as possible...because trust me when I say you will dent the thing...and if you just bought a nice car and spent all your money on it...you'll be very sad. Buy something small to practice on like a Volkswagen Polo. ;)

  8. i dont know since the pricing is different over seas

  9. First this is an out and out lie "Honda or a japanese make. They run better, are more gas efficient and the up keep isn't way expensice."

In the UK your best bet would be a Ford Focus. It's made there and parts are cheap because of that. j*p parts always cost 50% more than the rest of the world.

  10. bugatti veyron

    ferrari 360 modena

    lambo lp640

some suggestions for a 600000 budget how you get so much money???
