  1. I spent there three wonderful weeks. My boyfriend is Brazilian and I went to meet his family and there he asked me to marry him. I am from Italy and some aspects of Brazil are really difficult to see because of my culture and way of life, but the Country is wonderful. I have been to Rio, Belo Horizonte and Oro Preto and all of them are breath-taking. Rio is definitely one of the most beautiful cities I have ever visited and Oro Preto is just a little perfect city!!!

What can I say about the people??? I love them so much that I am marring one of them.

  2. Brazil is a wonderfull country.  I have lived here for 16 years mostly in Rio but also in São Paulo.  I also travel arround Brazil alot to the Northeaster portions.  The people are very friendly and open to meeting new people.  There is almost no hate in them and they are a peace loving people.  Unfortunately one characteristic of some Brazilians is that they may develope a friendship with you with the hope of getting someting personal out of the relationship.  They call this "esperto" or street wise, so be carefull.

  3. I just did a huge report about soccer in brazil. Here are some highlights of it:

No country in the world plays soccer like Brazil, or as they say, futbol. Soccer will always be the most popular sport in Brazil. Maybe this is because so many great soccer players come from Brazil. Or maybe because it’s so easy and popular for people in Brazil to play, since they only need a grassy field and round object. Many argue that Brazilians possibly learned to play soccer in 1882 from Mr. Hugh, who taught the railroad workers to play. However, there is very little information to prove this, and others speculate that Brazilians learned to play in 1894 by Brazilian-born, Charles Miller. Soccer in Brazil has a long history and has greatly impacted its people and culture.

According to one version in history, soccer was first brought to Brazil by the British and Dutch sailors in 1894. They played these early games on beaches of the North-Eastern coast line. People also argue that Mr. Hugh was the first to teach soccer to railroad workers in 1882. It’s also said that Mr. John taught the Leopoldina Railway workers to play in 1875 or 1876 (“SPORTS IN BRAZIL”).

little evidence to prove any of this to be true, but it is a fact that Charles Miller taught Brazilians to play in 1894. Miller was born in Brazil in 1874, but attended school in England. When he returned to Brazil, he brought soccer equipment back with him. The first official soccer match was in São Paulo at the Várzea do Carmo in 1894, and it was immediately popular. Four years later in São Paulo on August 18, 1898, the first official soccer club team was formed. Soon, people all over Brazil were playing soccer.

. There were only two years where The World Cup was not played in (1942 and 1946) because of World War II. Ever since 1930, Brazil has participated in every one.

Soccer isn’t just for professionals. Just about every kid in Brazil is taught to play soccer starting when they learn to walk. Kids and teens play in the streets, fields, concrete, waste ground, or any available surface of every village and city in Brazil. Kids and teens play before, during, and after school hours. The way kids play soccer in Brazil and the way kids play soccer anywhere else is very different.

“I love to play football, but the school field is full of holes, and the goalposts are broken. I can’t play there because we must be careful not to get hurt,” said a 15 year old girl from Cidade de Deus (“A better education for children in Brazil’s City of God)”. The girl comes from a poor town in Brazil. In Cidade de Dues, 20% of the children will not survive to be teens. They are trying to have better education in this town. Though many children have access to a school, classes are often interrupted by police raids or gun crimes. The girl says that she has missed many years of school, though the school day is only four hours long. The city is filled with drugs, gun crime, and gangs. Soccer is sometimes the only enjoyable part of the day.  (A better education for children in Brazil’s City of God.)

Some of the world’s greatest soccer players have been Brazilian, such as Ronaldo and Pele.

Recently, David Beckham announced that he plans to open the “David Beckham World of Sport” soccer complex in Brazil. There will be eight soccer fields, a 10,000 seat stadium and facilities for golf and tennis. Beckham said the facility will incorporate a scholarship program for Brazilian children that plans to reach out to schools in the area. Beckham said, “I don’t want to teach Brazilian children to play soccer; I want to offer a safe place for kids to develop their abilities.” The complex is expected to be completed in 2014 (David Beckham to build sports complex, academy in Brazil luxury resort by Tales Azzoni).

Brazil is also home to the world’s eighth largest stadium in Rio de Janerio.

Whenever you think of Brazil, you think of their soccer. Soccer will always be huge in Brazil not only because of their huge history with it, also because it is so easy for Brazilians to find a field to play. They’re the only team to play in every World Cup. They hold the record with Germany for playing World Cup 92 matches, have won 64 World Cup games, draw 14 World Cup games, and lost 14 World Cup games. They hold the record for scoring the most goals in the World Cup (201). Soccer will always be huge in Brazil, and Brazil will always be good at soccer.

    hope this helped!

  4. Brazil is a huge catholic country, approximately 180 mi inhabitants, it's the only country in South America which speaks Portuguese (quite different from Portugal though). It's a young country, basically an immigrant's country as the natives (indias are seldom seeing in the big cities). Brazilian people are a mixture of races: Europeans (Portugal, Spain, Germany, Italy...), Japanese and African slaves. The biggest city is Sao Paulo (about 20 mi people, it's an expensive, business oriented, international place, however I do not consider Sao Paulo to be a nice holiday destination). The capital is Brasilia which is like Camberra in Australia, it was build to be the capital and in my opinion is also not worth visiting. You should go to Rio de Janeiro, which is a big but beautiful place and then to the Northeast if you like beaches and warm weather. Should you be more interested in the wildlife, then go to Pantanal or Amazonia... I am Brazilian and can tell a lot more about my country, but it would be nice to have a little idea of what you like to know or do.

    Cheers

Brazil is great! people are friendly and wonderful. Language is portuguese. Many don't speak language but you will surprise how much you can learn in just a few days...

    A great place to visit!

  7. I spent a month in sao paulo brazil for a vacation. They speak portugese, not spanish as i first beleived (so much for studying spanish!) The beaches are really nice and its a great place to try coconut milk/water. I strongly suggest you visit some flea markets. The real is worth about50 cents canadian and you can get loads of good deals. i got a handmade bow and arrows for 10$ There are all sorts of musical instuments made for gourds and beans. SOccer and tennis is EVERYWHERE! a school i visited had 3 outdoor soccer fields and 2 indoor fields. no wonder brazil is so good at soccer. i recommend that you escape from the city for a little while and go up to the mountains around sao paulo. The rainforest is an awesome place to see monkeys and lemurs. Take a bus or train down to rio de janero and see the christ. Rio is alot cleaner than sao paulo, but sao paulo has its nice spots.
