I went snowboarding for the first time yesterday. It was the hardest sport I've ever done!! I can't even stand up front ways bymyself and If i do stand up its from the back so i have to go backwards and stop on my toes or from the side where then i speed down and fllip and roll and fall. Yesterday I had way more trouble than all the other beginners it was so embarssing. Some of my friends were impatient with em and even left me at this super long hill that took me 2 hours to get down and I coudlnt snowboard so i was carrying my board sometimes and this lady helped me for a while till my friends came back and it was so foggy and scary and steep and its like almost a fear now and I dont want to go again next friday but I have to.

  1. Definitely start with the easiest slope. If you are a beginner, speed is NOT your friend. You need to learn the basics like how to stop, and turn before you get any more speed than the bunny hill. It sounds like the hitt you were on is too advanced for your skill level, work your way up. Lessons are optional, I took one to get me started on my first day, and haven't taken another since. I'm just not a lesson person. Go at your own pace.

  2. don't worry about going down "backwards". this is called toe edge and its a good thing. Just take it slow.....sounds like you need to stick to the bunnyhill. One last thing, just trust yourself. Just let go and ride it down. I didn't think I could "just let go" the first time i went, but I tried it and it worked and I got it! Good luck!

  3. Lessons!!! Please go get yourself a lesson. Honestly you will never look back once you do, it'll be the best $$ you've ever spent. These people are trained to sit with you for as long as it takes to get you rocking. Plus you won't have to deal with your friends being inpatient tools and making you fell stink about being a learner! Everybody takes different amounts of time to pick it up, you are completely normal -  I started off worse than you and now I make a living from snowboarding! Go get em!!

  4. The faster that you go, the more you will enjoy snowboarding.  Stretch for at least an hour before you get up on the mountain.  Buy and use a helmet.  Point your board straight down a fairly steep slope.  When your speed reaches a nice pace you will be able to learn how to steer and balance much better.  Speed is your friend if you are trying to keep your balance on a snowboard.
