  1. This is pretty much like asking "Any tips on holidaying in America." Mexico is a huge and very diverse country. It has mountains and beaches (Pacific and Caribbean). It has deserts and jungles, huge cities, small towns, resorts and fishing villages. It has a canyon four times bigger than the Grand Canyon, volcanoes topped with snow all year. It has modern cities and ancient ruins.

You can shop in a very upscale mega-mall, in a Wal-Mart or Costco or in an open-air street market. You can meet light-skinned blonde, urban, sophisiticated Mexicans and short, dark indigenous Mexicans and anything in between.

In some places you will find many Americans and Europeans, in others almost none. Some places you'll hear lots of English, others not a word. In some places you can spend dollars, others you have to use pesos. In some places the water is fine out of the tap, in others it can kill you.

If you can be a little more specific in your question, maybe we can  help.

  2. Try renting from an owner instead of staying in a hotel.  It is self catering and usually the places have great amenities because they are part of resorts.

  3. Depends on where you are coming from and where in Mexico you are going.  We went in May and loved it.  Take plenty of suncream because it is very hot and very humid.

Take US dollars as they accept these as well, but you will get change in Mexican Pesos so maybe have some of those.  If you are going to Cancun make sure you get out of there to explore.  Cancun is nice but chock full of pubs, clubs and hotels.  Down the coast you have some amazing beaches and you can get the ferry to Cozumel for the day as well.

Visit Xcaret Park, an Eco park just outside Playa del Carmen.  You can swim in very cool underwater rivers and do a Sea Trek where you walk on the sea floor with a divers helmet on - brilliant fun.

We didn't go to Chichen Itza cos it was about a 3 hour drive but we went to Coba which is a smaller but no less impressive pyramid.  And boy that was hard to climb!

We were exhausted from a very busy working start to the year so we didn't get out and explore too much, however as we were all inclusive we were well looked after.

If you like snorkelling there are some fantastic places to go and some great things to see - again Xcaret was brilliant for that.  The rep we had was full of knowledge about the area and quieter beaches that were really good places to go.  We swam with dolphins and also did a romantic evening lobster cruise in Cancun and the sunset was terrific.

Have a great time - its safe and the people are very friendly, the only rude people we met were some Americans (one of whom was so bad we actually had to move seats in a restaurant.....)  but that was a tiny minority.

  4. chyeaa. don't go to the nightclubs and stuff.

rather get the vip bands from the hotels and get all your drinking done there since drinks are usually free during your stay.

however dnt just lounge around on the beach all day, there are plenty of stuff to go visit. and climb... such as the sun and moon temple :P
