  1. Visit in the winter - it's cooler, but may rain in some parts.

Start in Hanoi.  Visit Sapa, Halong Bay, Hue, Hoian, Nha Trang, Dalat, Saigon and Mekong Delta.

You can fly from Hanoi to Danang for $75.00.

You can take an "open tour bus" from Hanoi to Saigon for $30.00  The trains are cheap, too.

Tourist type hotels run $10 - $20 a nite.  Family run hotels are even less.  Check the room before checking in.

Most people in any tourism business speak English.

    Enjoy your trip!

  3. There are some great over night or day tours out of HaNoi.  We have been on several and had a good time and the scenery is fantastic.  Most any hotel can arrange these for you or try Tonkin Travel.  They seem to have the most to offer.  The tours are quite reasonable too.

I also getting recommend getting the latest copy of Rough Guide and reading it.  Some good ideas there.

    Enjoy your holiday.  Cheers.

  5. I suggest taking your time.  Vietnam is incredibly diverse.  The south is hot and humid, and the north can be cold and misy.  I would suggest limiting the places you visit and spend more time in each place.  I found that a good decent hotel cost about $20/night.  However, in Siagon, if you stay in Dist. 1, you will find most hotels are around $75-$100.  I used both Lonely Planet and the Rough Guide books and tried many of the places in those books and they were great.  Also, check the Lonely Planet website, there are lots of people on the message boards with info that can help you.
