Anyone Can Help About Gerbils ?

Question

My Little Sister Just Gave Me Her Gerbil, Tammi. I Tried To Pet Tammi, But When I Did She Bit Me, I Asked My Sis && She Said She Had Never Tried To Handle It Coz' She Was Scared Ov It && Left It Alone But She Cared For It, Its 13 Weeks Old Now, Has Anyone Got Any Ideas How To Get It Used To Me?

the best way to get her used to you is to get her used to your scent and presence.  sit beside the tank and watch tv or something so she can watch you.  before you put bedding in the tank put your hands through it to get your scent on it. another way to familiarize your scent is to put your hand in the tank. be very still and dont try to pet her.  let her come to you.  you can also buy some thick gloves and handle her with those untill she gets used to you.

one thing i have found out about gerbils is that one of the quickest ways to their heart is through food.  they love sunflower seeds.  put one on your hand and offer it to her.  it may take her a while to trust you but it will happen.

Leave it to sleep in your room with you for about 3 or 4 days so it gets use to your smell and talk to it every now and then so it gets use to your voice. Then after this offer it treats talkin to it at the same time. When it gets use to you and will come to you unhesitantly for treats try stroking it and when its finally use to this pick it up in a cup like shake. This takes just under a week overall but is well worth it because she will be so much happier. Hope this helps. xxxxxxxxxx

The key is to start small and grow big.

Every day, start by just petting her and talking kindly to her for about 15 minutes.

Then start giving her treats after a while.

Soon enough after about 2 weeks (That's how long it took me) she will let you hold her.

TREATZ!!! WHEN U PICK IT UP MAKE SURE U SHOW HER THE TREAT AND SO THAT WILL TAKE HER MIND OFF OF BITTING U AND THEN YALL CAN BE BFFS!!

let it sniff you and give it some treats you have to tame to not bite but dont handle it right away just pet her and stuff
