  1. I went from London to Paris on the Eurostar. My friend  was panicking about the part under the water but we missed it. It was fast and clean. I went to Brussels on an ordinary train a few days later. That was  great too. One thing we didn't do was allow enough time at the station. Remember you are going through security checks so allow enough time for that to happen. We nearly missed our train. I live in South Australia. I did a 22 hour flight first to get there...lol

  2. I been on a journey on eurostar from London st.pancreas to Brussels few months ago. The journeys takes 2 and a half hours, there is adequate space, the journeys very comfortable, you don't really  feel the speed of the train because the train seems to 'glide' also it is very quite. overall very pleasant experience :-]

Almost forgot , the whole checking in system is very similar to the one when boarding a plane

  3. Just remember to leave plenty of time in case your train is delayed. The transfer from Kings Cross - St Pancras is seamless as it is just across the road. London Euston is a short walk or one stop on the London Underground through the Northern Line.

  4. I hear it is very good

  5. If you're travelling from Scotland by train then you'll probably terminate at King's Cross. This is literally next door to St Pancras (the Eurostar station). Even if you go to Euston it's only a couple of stops on the Underground from Euston Square to King's Cross/St Pancras underground station.

Allow plenty of time for security at St Pancras and make sure that your documents are at hand. If you prepare as though your were using an airport you'll be ok., except that the railway station is much more pleasant than any airport.

Unlike air travel, there is no weight restriction on luggage, no scary check in staff and you don't have to faff about with plastic bags for your liquids. You don't see your suitcase disapear down a black tunnel to risk being lost either. That's so much more civilised and stress-free than air travel.

The trains are spacious and comfortable, even in Standard Class and you won't have to be concerned about the undersea part of the journey. It's only about 10 minutes. They close special watertight doors between the carriages for that bit, but it's really not necessary. The Channel Tunnel is quite safe. So don't get worried when you see them closing, it doesn't mean that there's a problem. You can even press a button and walk through if you want to.

It's worth remembering that loads of trains use the tunnel every hour and there will probably be three or four in there, in each direction, at any one time so you won't be alone under the English Channel.

Brussels Midi is not well designed for Eurostar. You may find yourself in a 30 minute immigration and security queue. It's a real pain because all the formalities could be done on the train - but that's the Belgians for you...

Keep an eye out of the window and see what a smooth ride you get at 186mph. Probably smoother than your domestic journey.

One big word of advice - on the Eurostar the 1st class get a meal thrown in. I gather that they're very good. But passengers travelling in "pleb" class have to buy their food. It is VERY expensive, even for a packet of crisps. I really advise you to take sandwiches with you and a bottle of pop, unless you're willing to shelll out for a Eurostar coffee or tea. They don't sell haggis (sad) or deep-fried Mars bars (good).
