Hi. I am going travelling soon and my second destination is Tokyo. If anyone knows a bit about Tokyo could you tell me where would be the best part to stay. I am looking for a central location where there are a lot of attractions. I have found a nice hotel in Narita, i know this is near the airport but is it far away from all other attractions? Any info on Tokyo from first hand experience would be great. thanks.

  1. When I started my travelling I started in Narita. After a couple of days I headed to Asakusa. It was a nice hostel and it was relatively close to lots of attractions. It was about 15 minutes from the hostel but the area of Asakusa was amazing. From asakusa you can get on the train and subways to all areas of Tokyo. I headed to Shinjuku, Shibuya, Akihabara, Ueno, and Central _Tokyo.

Tokyo is very safe and you haven`t got to worry about danger, I definately recommend you visit Shibuya on a Sunday.

    Hope this helps。

Have fun in Japan its an amazing country.

  2. The airport is miles away from everywhere approx one and a half hours from Tokyo which is good for going back home or just arriving but not for seeing Tokyo so I don't recommend that to be honest.

Try Shinjuku really cool place and you can pretty much see all different parts of Tokyo from there as quite alot of the time you need to change there.  Theres really great shopping there, and not just clothes either!!  As for attractions I guess it all depends on what you are wanting to see.

Kamakuru is a great day out if you want to see loads of temples etc and you can buy a fab ticket from Shinjuku station which will save you loads, so you can get off at loads of different stops as many times as you want.

Odaiba is another fab place to go with amazing views and easy to get to from Shinjuku.  Theres massive malls selling allsorts, man made beach, the statue of liberty replica, the really cool fuji tv station building, the giant ferris wheel, the mall with the artifical sky so it looks like you're outside!!

Tama City home of Hello Kitty and Sanrio Puroland where you can meet all the characters!!

Roppongi Tower is a must visit too, go to the top and see all of Tokyo the view is amazing.

Hakone is another fab place to visit.

I could go on and on but Shinjuku is probably your best bet.

Enjoy yourself, wish it was me.  Any more help just let me know lol

  3. I stayed in the maronochi hotel,

    which was lovely,

Narita is an hour a way from central tokyo,

    Its where mt.Fugi is situated.

Message me if you have any other questions on it!

  4. Narita is too far from Tokyo.

As another poster suggested, Asakusa is a good place to stay, good transport links and lots of cheap hostels.

  5. No but I well want to, it's absolutley amaaaaaaaaaazing!

  6. I stayed at Asakusa, which is a great place as there are shopping and food and places of interest. What is your budget? The place i stayed at is cheap as it's a small family run inn. Asakusa Ryokan(Hostel) Toukaisou - http://www.toukaisou.com/index-e.htm. Small and cosy place and the best part, the staff speaks good english so it helps when we plan our day trips. Have to book early though as it's very popular. The trains are very efficient and the stations within walking distance so travelling anywhere in Tokyo or around Japan would not be a problem from here. Happy travelling!

  7. To go to Tokyo metropolitan area, most common way is to use JR trains from Narita airport or Narita airport tarminal 2, both stations are in inside the airport. They costs about more than $10 to get to Tokyo (one way). If you use rapid express one, that'll cost more, but faster. I guess it'll take almost 1:30 to reach "Tokyo" without transfer. (by using Narita express, less than 1 hour). From "Tokyo", there are so many lines including subways. I can say there are many places you can enjoy, since there's many attractions near the Tokyo metropolitan area. I picked some below with short descriptions, and what line you need to take to go there.

    Yamanote Line (JR)

"Shinjuku" (新宿) capital of Tokyo. A lot of fun, but too many people. It's busiest area in Tokyo.

"Harajuku"  possibly best place to enjoy shopping clothes. A lot of shops are on the streets in front of the station.

"Shibuya"(渋谷) much like Times square in NY. Where to get just fun.

"Akihabara" (秋葉原)said electronic town. If like something like tv, camera or anything like them or manga, anime or those relatives, the best place on the planet.

    Subway (Tokyo Metro)

"Ginza" (銀座)you can go Ginza by using Marunouchi line from Tokyo or Shinjuku or Ginza line from Shibuya. "Ginza" is pretty like where for adult, not like youth. a lot of shops and bars, but often cost much higher than it in other towns.

"Roppongi" (六本木)you can go Roppongi where a lot of fun especially for visitors from foreign countries. There are many people from many nations, so you may find some people from your nation. go by using Hibiya line from Ginza or Toei Oedo line from Shinjuku

"Asakusa" (浅草)is a town remains some old atmosphere of Tokyo, kind like Edo era or before recent decades. You can visit Denmon street where many visitors favor. (Ginza line)

If you have time, you can visit Yokohama(横浜) and Kamakura(鎌倉)or Tokyo Disney Resort in Maihama(舞浜).

All it depends on what you want, if you want to see some histrical aspects in the country, you may go Kyoto and Nara best.

I guess it's better to search on the web and decide where you will go before you go Tokyo, and you definitely need to hand a map and a train map. And I seriously want to suggest you to book hotel in not Narita airport except for when you arrive Japan if you plan to spend days in Tokyo, since Narita is simply far from Tokyo.

  8. Hia,

Well Narita is about 1 hours away from Tokyo station if you take the Narita Express train - not cheap if you are going to do this everyday. Better to get a hotel in the center of the city in my opinion.

Good places to check are Shinjuku- as already mentioned, Shibuya, Shinagawa or Ueno for a decent option of different priced hotels.

What to see? Well it depends what you're into really - everything is here so you just need to be clear about what you are into : )

There' parks, gardens, history, modern, great shopping, delicious food, and so much more!

Place names that I recommend would be Odaiba, Ebisu, Shibuya, Imperial Palace, Daikanyama, and Shimo Kitazawa.

I've added a link below for you with more info - take a peek and see what you fancy doing. Have a great trip.
