Anyone else here a LIBERO?

Question

i just found out the other day i'm my teams libero.

i'm a freshman, and on JV.

any tips?

+ what are oyur experiences with the postion?

i've never actauly played it in a game, YET, but i will soon. :]

IM MY TEAMS LIBERO, ON JV TEAM. A LIBERO IS PRETTY MUCH JUST PLAYING THE BACK ROW DEFENSE. YOU NEVER REALLY PLAY FRONT ROW AT ALL. JUST DEFENSE!

I played this position while I was in high school.  Well not for high school but for my club team, we had different rules in the two different leagues.  I enjoyed it.  While you don't get to move to the front line and attack the ball or serve the ball,  it feels pretty good to constantly dig balls up.  I enjoyed it a lot because I loved to dive and in this position there are a lot of opportunities to do so.  Just remember stay low to the ground and stay deep.  Let the players in position 1 and position 5 take all the short balls.  And have fun!

^^ liberos can too serve.

Its a newer rule.

I just went to a NCAA Div. III game tonight and both team's liberos served.

& the libero on my highschool team serves.

Also liberos can attack from the back row. as long as they dont jump in front of the 10 ft line.

As my team's libero, I can explain it to you.  It can also be refered to as a defensive specialist, because you are not involved in any offensive moves (spiking, serving etc).

You wear a different color jersey from the rest of the team (think of yourself as special, not singled out :) The starting lineup will go out, and once the ref has verified that the same numbers on the scorecard are on the court, you have permission to "trade off" with whomever you are to replace (usually the middle blocker, once they are in the back row). They walk off, you walk on in their spot.

As a libero, you play the back row only, and cannot serve (sorry, those are the rules!) Usually the libero is in the back middle as a "specialty spot" (meaning after your team attacks you switch to the middle).

Now, here's the part that can get kind of frustrating, (nearly) everything that comes to the back row is yours. Of course, call it, but if nobody takes it, you will be the one blamed, so make all efforts to get that ball!

When you have reached the front row, you will switch off with that other player again, and will come back on once they are finished serving. Because you have that special jersey on, there is no offical substitution necessary. Best of luck!
