Question:

Anyone ever puked from meditation?

I've been meditating for about a week now, usually for 30 minutes at a time. I use a metronome and try t synchronize my heart beats with the metronome beats. Then, i decrease the metronome and do it again and so on until i feel like all that exists in the world is the beat. However, a couple of times, i've gotten lightheaded and tingly and thrown up. I know i'm not sick because i feel fine when i'm not meditating. Is it possible i'm getting by heart to beat too slow? or am i just doing it too fast? has this ever happened to anyone else?

  1. i've never puked but i broke out in hives once becuase of an allergic reaction to omxicillen or something lol

  2. Thats a good meditation man !

Why not supplement this non action with some action ?  Put some music on and stand.  Go into the music as much as you did with the metronome.  (music without lyrics is best).  Allow your body to shake randomly.  Just take it from there and let the body do what it wants to do....Do this for as long as you meditate and alternate the sessions.

Remember this is a meditation it is not learning to dance.....

  3. I have vomited from meditation but because I was trying to release some things and my body just really wanted to help.

I would not attempt to change your heart rate to match the metronome, either listen to it and do not try to sinchronize or just listen to your heart and ditch the metronome. Your heart will have its own wisdom as to how much it really wants to slow down. You can, in fact, set the intention that your heart will slow to whatever rythm is healthy for you during meditation and no slower.

You could also concentrate on the rythm of your breath instead. I just don't feel comfortable with the idea of asking your heart so synchronize with something that is not alive and posesses no wisdom of its own rather than allowing your own heart and brain to work out the heart rate thing. Your body knows and it is telling you that it doesn't like what you are doing.

Good for you though for meditating and for observing just how much power there is in harnessing the mind. Experiment with some of the things I suggested and perhaps read a few books or talk with other meditators.

    Good luck.

  4. no but i had this serious allergic reaction to this one medicine they gave me after surgery a few years back....I kept jumping and heaving and i was having trouble breathing...and it was just horrible!

  5. No, i have never vomited from meditating but, when I was a beginner I would only meditate for 20 minutes of a time....perhaps you are taking on too much for a beginner, learn to calm/train your mind on your own before you introduce mind regulation on bodily functions.  I would recommend The Attention Revolution: Unlocking the Power of the Focused Mind by B. Alan Wallace .  He explains all the stages on learning meditation in a step by step fashion for beginners.  I have never really heard of someone trying to control their heart, usually , your heart, metabolism, and body temperature are effected but this is something that most people don't know is going on until they are more advanced.  For instance, studies in Harvard have had monks meditate in freezing cold rooms with damp towels on and actually witnessed steam coming from the towels because they were able to raise their body temperature.  But, they have been practicing meditation religiously for years and years.

I think you should concentrate on your breath not on your actual heart beat, but this is just my opinion.  Good Luck!
