  1. what i find when taking a pool shot is to bend down low so my face is near the table and try top hit the very middle of the white ball

  2. Here are some "tips".

Find someone that is considerably better than you are to play with that is willing to share their knowledge with you. You can't learn anything of significance just banging balls around with other novice players.

Just sit and watch superior players. There is a lot to be learned there. Style, ball selection, safeties, demeanor at the table, execution of shots, etc.

Purchase a book titled, "Standard Book of Pool and Billiards" by Robert Byrne. Read it cover to cover and you'll find yourself referencing it over and over again and applying it to your game.

These are some common mistakes made by beginners that you will want to avoid.

Not chalking their cue after EVERY shot

    Shooting too hard

Having a poor stroke, in that they don't follow through after their cue makes contact with the cue ball

Not keeping their cue parallel to the table

    Having a poor bridge

Not staying down once they strike the cue ball and ALL THE BALLS have stopped MOVING

Not assessing the table before they start shooting

    Lack of focus

I hope all of that will get you started.

  3. If you do it to have fun just do it

If you want to try to become great, you have to have your head and mind into and it takes plenty of practice.  The best way to learn is to play people better than you.
