How come the guys on the train will check your ticket some days and other days they won't? Do they have any real system to make sure everyone on board has a ticket?

  1. yea its ok if your old like me you can even bring some beer along for the ride enjoy a nice day at bay Meadows

  2. It's totally random.

Once I was going up to SF to meet some friends, and there was Giants game at SBC Park (as it was called 2 yrs ago.)  The conductors checked a lot of people for tickets on both the up and back trips and actually nailed some folks who 'forgot' to buy tickets.   They took some guy's drivers license for about 15 minutes, disappeared somewhere in the train,  then came back with a 1-page citation for him to sign.

It's a significant fine if you try to ride without a ticket.  I think they check less frequently during the commute hours when they know the regulars.  But on weekends and holidays, or when schools start up in the fall, I'm sure they do much more checking for  tickets.

  3. I think it depends on the one doing the job, how conscientious he/she is about their job.
