  1. Scheduling what? I worked as a production scheduler before attending college. Experience in material logistics qualified me. Started career in shipping, moved to stockroom. Later, supervised stockroom, worked in Inventory Control, and progressed to purchasing. However, some schedulers major in business, econ, or engineering.

Scheduling is a juggling act. Your job is to balance the demand (your backlog) with parts availability and efficient usage of human resources. Whatever kind of scheduling you're doing requires the ability to meet deadlines, deal with people, and deal with goods.

Is it fun? Yes, when everything ‘clicks’ it is exhilarating. However, when things go wrong, you’ll have headaches.

Growth/Advancement? You can move to supervisory positions, planning positions, or to other firms.

How much $$ do you make? In Georgia, I earned 30K. In Oregon, I earned 35K. In California, I earned 55K – but worked more hours. Salary depends on responsibilities and job markets.
