Anyone who have had a epidural?

ok i had an epidural on may 10 to have my baby girl.. well i am 29 years old and have NEVER had any problems with my back, well ever since my epidural i have massive pain (like inbetween my shoulder blades on my spine). its only when i stand for a little bit, like 5 minutes and it starts hurting! anyone else experience this??

I had pain for a while in the spot they put in the needle...but not like you are descibing...maybe your pulling certain muscles from lifting on the baby???

I had 2 and I am going on with #3. I will defintintly have major back problems, and I am 30 years old.

YES I AM 25 AND I HAD MY LIL BOY 9 MONTHS AGO ALMOST 10 MONTHS!!AND I HAVE HAD HORRIBLE BACK PAIN EVER SINCE! IN BETWEEN MY SHOULDER BLADES AS WELL, AND IT SPREADS LONG WAYS...IT FEELS LIKE THE TENDON IS ROLLING AROUND IN THERE IT HURTS, SRY HAVENT TALKED TO DOC BOUT IT YET..I HATE GOING TO THE DOCS, I JUST WANT U  TO KNOW U ARENT ALONE AND I HAVE LOST ALL MY BABY WEIGHT IM AT MY WEIGHT I WAS BEFORE I WAS PREGNANT W A LITTLE EXTRA SKIN, LOL...BUT ITS NOT WEIGHT THATS HURTING MY BACK...SO GOOD LUCK, SORRY!

I had an epidural and had problems with my back afterward too.  But it was not caused by the meds. it was cause by improperly picking up my son from his crib.  Are you holding you baby when your back starts to hurt. Maybe you strained your back with those new infant carriers(they weight a ton).  When I had a spinal block for my c-section with my twins the pain was worst still but because I was hauling around 15+ lbs worth of baby.  Before you blame the meds check with how you are carry and picking up your bundle of joy.  And if it still bothers you ask the doctor.

It's called a spinal headache. I had them after the births of my three older children (epidurals with all three). They would occur off and on for abuot a year after each birth.

Oddly, though I was expecting to have them with my yonugest (epidural and emergency c-section) the same as with my older kids, I only had them a few times in the first month after the birth.

I never found how to ease the pain. You might want to get in touch with your doctor (either your OB or your family doctor) and see what they have to say.

Yes I had an epidural on my last pregnancy because it was a csection.  That is the only reason because I have a terrible fear of needles. I ended up with a hole in my spinal cord and spinal fluid leaking out which caused my brain stem to weaken.  I had what they call a spinal headache.  Worst pain I have ever had in my life.  They brought me back into the hospital to perform a blood patch.  They take blood out of your arm and deposit it into your spinal cord.  It took 3 vials of blood to fix the leak.  You have to sit bent over, while they inject the blood into your spinal cord, until you can not take the pain any longer and not only does your back hurt, but your hips hurt for about 2-4 weeks after the procedure.  It may not even take the first time but if it is done correctly, it should be instant relief.  I know this does not sound good but if I had to do over again I would have made them put me to sleep and risked death because there is no worse pain than what I was in.  A migraine times 100 and I get those all the time now.  I don't want to scare anyone but it truly made child birth a terrible experience for me.  I had 2 other childbirths before and they were vaginal and only had Demerol.  It was great and my boys were fine.

I had an epidural with my twins.  Shortly after having them I started having severe muscle spasms in my back.  I mean, I looked like I was seizing because they were so strong.  I still have them from time to time and my twins are almost 4.  A couple of people I've talked to don't think it has to do with the epidural but I do...I didn't have any issues prior to it.

I know a few people who have had this problem. I have had cronic back pain since I can't remember when so I can't say if this did anything to me, but I do know some people who have had this problem since they had an epidural and they told me that it was because of the way that the epidural was placed or something. In time it will get better though, If you are unsure then go see your doctor and maybe he or she can explain more and help with pain relievers

my back hurt so bad for months after i had the epidural, i thought i screwed myself for getting it, but it eventually ceased and when i had my second baby i passed on the epidural..

I had one almost six years ago and to this day it hurts to bend over, down in my lower back. Never before the epidural did I have any back pain at all.

I have had two epidurals, in my first I never had a problem with my back. My second I found that for about 2 months after I had back pain around the sight and it radiated across my lower back. I would say something to your Doc just in case because it is a little high to be related (not sure I am not a doctor). Don't forget your body has been through a lot and even if you didn't put on much weight during your pregnancy it can put strain on strange places.

I had the same thing in 2000.  When I'd stand and wash the dishes, a small circular spot in the same location as you, would go numb and tingle.  This happened off and on for like 5 yrs before it went away.
