  1. think about it..."get the ball BACK OVER THE NET". waht else could that mean besides bump, set or spike the ball over?

bump/pass-a forearm pass that you want to aim towards your setter. with palms up, put one hand on top of the other forming a rite angle. then fold hands in so thumbs touch.

set-there is usually someone specifically trying out for setter, but its an overhead pass where your hands are above your headand you use your FINGERTIPS to pass the ball to a hitter (most of the time) make sure u dont get a carry. you have to act like superman when you extend to set, and USE UR LEGS!!!

hit-agian, ususally specific. there is an approach you do- start with left foot out, left, right, left (angle body towards setter and swing arms back on this step), right (plant your body and with your opposite hand use as a guide hand then hit with ur dominent hand. flick your wrist! on this step)

block-on the net, defense. when the other team hits, u have to be ready to block-which is when you jump STRAIGHT up and "push" the ball back over the net.

dig-a lot of the time if the pass gets passed into the net, it will bounce out and you have to dig it out-get low. use this if thhe ball is low.

when you're on the net dont touch it or cross halfcourt.

thats the basics, but to really understand the game u need practices, coaches, and more practice. you cant learn how to play from assking a question on yahoo

  2. meaning you either have to bump and set the ball over the net. thats basicaly it. im on the team. when the ball is below your shoulders bump, above set, really high spike and flick your wrist down. doing any of these, youve got to move your legs. the ball won't come to you. and when trying out for the team, my coach didn't really remind people not to KICK it..... yeah.......

  3. first of all you obvioulsy dont know the basic rules. You can't hit the ball yourself more than once and the whole team only has three touches. And yes you can kick it, in volleyball you can use any part of your body to get the ball. So rethink your sources. Second of all if you don't even know that much you shouldn't even be playing volleyball!

  4. Well get out to get the ball over the net simply means go out there and try to get the ball over the net legally so you don't lost the point and/or the game.

    Basic hits:

Bumping(some call it passing)=putting your hands together in a "V" shape and hitting the ball on your forearms

Setting=Sort of described as pushing the ball above your head to set up for a spike

Spiking(some call it killing)=Sort of like a serve, the same motion with your hands except it is aimed downward because you are close to net, while in a serve, you are far back behind the baseline, therefore you cannot aim downward or it will not go over the net.

Digging=Same motion as bumping but you have to get down low, and digging is done after someone spikes the ball

    Serving=starts off the point

Blocking=jumping up to block a spike, done with both hands held up

Tipping(some call it tapping)=Like a spike except you just lightly push the ball over the blockers' hands

This might not count as a hit:

Faking=Jumping up when up at the net and acting like you are going to spike but isn't

Two important rules to remember when serving:

You cannot step over the baseline before your hand contacts the ball. After you contact the ball you are free to jump or step into the court.

You cannot serve before the referee blows the whistle and allows you to serve. If you serve before the whistle is blown, the ball will go to the other team.

    More important rules:

All players on both teams other then the server is required to be inside the court until the server contacts the ball with his/her hand.

You are not allowed to touch the net while the point is being played.

  5. With the 3rd hit of the volleyball, the ball must go back over the net - this is very difficult when the ball goes astray on the second contact, and you are chasing the ball and having to redirect it over the net - or else the other team will gain a point.

It is easy to spike or do any kind of hit on the ball when you are in an easy position to do so. You should learn how to dig, set and spike the volleyball, and also learn of other ways to make contact with the volleyball.

You do have some spare time? Don't you - this means you can purchase a practice volleyball (they are very cheap) - pratice by yourself, or even better with a friend or friends.

It is good fun just to hit the ball around volleyball style between friends. You know of happy sack? Well you can do those kind of things and more, with a volleyball - ie. using your arms too. Head contact is legal too.. if you wish to use it?

Foot contact is allowed these day, but not on the serve.

It is used when you don't want to dive for a low ball, just use your foot instead.

  6. Well i know it can be a little scary doing something you dont know that well. But if you know the rules you won't mess up too badly.

Just make sure when coaches say to do something hustle, and maybe if you know what you are doing then hop up to the front of the line. It will show them that you are ready to play.

Another thing about hitting is just have fun with it. Dont try to over think it, because then it just becomes a hugh mess and you get frustrated. When you are hitting at the net like running up to it. Wait for the ball to hit its peak, so right when it gets the highest it can be and it going to start to drop. Then take off. If you want you can do a 3 step aproach left, right, left then just gather and jump. Its really easy. If you have your heart set on making the team then i think you should practice at home if you want to hit. Last thing about hitting is keep your elbow high and if you are hitting it out then just snap your wrist. and hit more down on the ball.

If you are just starting out then be coachable. Learn new positions. Like setter hitter digger. All of them are fun and can be hard to learn but this way you can find your favorite thing to do. I love volleyball and i went from hitting to setting and know libero. they are all fun and so is the game. Keep your head up and good luck.
