Question:

Apprenticeship or school?

I'm stuck in a little bit of a bind right now trying to decide whether I want an apprenticeship or to go to school.

If I go to school I'm going to be going to a trade college in my area for machinist/junior engineering work.

But I was offered 2 apprenticeship jobs: one is a plumbing apprenticeship, starts at $10 dollars an hour.

The other is an apprenticeship for a company that does machinist work for government contracts.

I'd like to go to school but at the same time I'd like to be making some money.

Any advice?

  1. You should to go school.

  2. Heyy there..

well both of the paths you are choosing specialise in a certain trade, so it wouldn't make TOO much of a difference what you chose, right ? So if i were you, i'd probably choose the apprenticeship.. first off because its a fantastic opportunity for you to just get out there and experience the real world, yet you still get the chance to learn and grow. If you stay on at school you don't really get this experience. Secondly, it makes a nice change.. you've been going to school most of your life, so now is a good chance to have a change of scenery. And thirdly, as you mentioned, the money ! I live in the UK, but $10 an hour does seem pretty good ! If your going to carry on learning, why not get paid for it, right ??

Good luck, hope you make the right decision ! x
