to become an architect, what grades do i need at A level and GCSE and what subjects should i do at A level?

i dont want to take art again, its too stressful and the teachers in my school are useless, so its a real put off. however im interested in designing and have a very creative mind. and im very good at maths, so i do know, that i am taking maths for A level. so can u please help and tell me what subjects to study and what grades are required?

oh finally. is architecture actually a good, well paid career? thanks

  1. Fine Art is required by most universities to do Architecture so if you don't want to do Art, you can't really do Architecture anyway.

These are the requirements for a few universities:

UCL: ABB to include Art and a portfolio.

Manchester: ABB mixture of science/maths & humanities/arts subjects preffered.

Sheffield: AAA, art or other evidence of art or design ability is necssary.

    Nottingham: AAA, Art and/Design required

Cambridge: AAA, No specific A-Levels. A-level Art provides a better preparation for the course that subjects such as Design.

Cardiff: AAA. A good academic base is required, preferably indicating a balance of skills in visual arts, sciences, writing and research.

    Bath:

This is the League tables for Architecture so you know which univerisities are better for Architecture: http://extras.timesonline.co.uk/tol_gug/...

In regards to subjects, excluding Art, I would choose Math. or Physics because they seem to be related to Architecture.

I think it is a good, well-respected career and you can earn over £100,000 per year. Her is a job profile for Architects:

  2. It's okay, I guess. I'd rather do Civil Engineering, though, because civil engineers get to incorporate the skills of an architect besides engineering itsself. This gives civil engineering a broader range of opportunity.

  3. Some people get really highly paid without taking any qualifications, they start of as interns and work their way up.

If you have the ability to understand technical drawings, that will make you good at it.

Also, there are different kinds of architects, some creative and some more technical.

To officially become an architect, you have to take a RIBA. However experienced architectural technicians can sometimes earn more, this is an industry where portfolios really matter.
