Actually this is what i hear it from a friend i am Arabic Muslim and in process to immigrate to Australia and i am planning to live in the suburbs because i think is better and the ppl are friendly but what i am afraid of now are my kids in the school if the austrlian really as they said i will cancel all my process and i will never think to go there if i will not deal with them i want to make friendship for me and my family with the Austrlain .

i hate this word Racist because we all have a red blood so the creator is one and the father is one

second part if they are racist the question against what (color, religion , Athentic...etc) or all others

On the other hand , even Arabs they are racist for against many things like color , relgion , athentic, tribe .. etc

but you will go around all arabs countries and you will not fell that cuz they are Hospitables and will never let you feel that they are and i'm not talking in general

Thanks and remeber one thing i Really Love Australi

  1. Not all of us, We happen to be a friendly country.

  2. i'm australian and i think that it really depends on the person but mainly no we are not racist

  3. The ones I know are never being racist

  4. I have known many immigrants and the thing is when you come here you come to give your children a better life so as long as you embrace our culture and values you will be accepted with open arms.

On the other hand if you don't mix and or allow your children to then you will never be accepted because the bottom line this is Australia and your children will eventually be Australians.

You will come across some racism but the majority will give you a fair go.

  5. im from australia and i would say australia isnt really much better or worse than other countries.

i agree with ur decision to live in the suburbs, people in these areas are more sociable

Keep in mind that australia is very multi cultural, we have many ethnic backgrounds

i hope you decide to come here

    it is very beautiful

  6. There are some racist Australians. I don't think you can say Australians are racist. Some are some aren't. This you will find the world over. I don't think we can label a race as there is good and bad in every race.

  7. The Suburb of Melbourne I live in is very Multicultural.

At my kids school ( state)

    there are

    Chinese

    Indian

    Arabic ( different cultural backgrounds)

    African ( different origins)

    Anglo

    Other Asian cultures

And as for the religious backgrounds

    Pentecostal

    Islamic

    Orthodox Catholics

    General Christians

    Sikh

    Hindu

    Buddhist

    Pagan

    Athiest

and I'm sure a few I haven't mentioned. And its a school of only 360 kids

  8. I agree with braidymaidy,, racists are everywhere, all countries have some. No way to avoid them just try to ignore them.

  9. No. After the cronulla riots a few years back, many people thought that australians were very intolerable of people of other races. This is completely wrong!

Many australians love people of different cultures and races, as it lets us learn about people from different parts of the world, and help us become more open minded.

  10. mainly no.Their are always a few ignornat peole in every society but to pin point them as racist in the whole definatly not...Sorry to be truthful I find the USA more racist

  11. First of all, forget the suburbs.  It's too expensive, and if you move to a place where a lot of the people are Muslims, you never get to mix with the rest of us.  Shepparton in North Victoria has a great Muslim population, heaps of schools, a few Mosques, and lots of factories to get work in.  And because there have been so many immigrants here over such a long period of time, most of the people who live here are used to it.  There's always work here.  The houses are cheap.  It's got nice weather.

Australians are just like anyone else.  I'm sure there's racist people in your own country.  Australia has a few racists, but most of us are friendly, accepting people.  We like people who work hard and obey the laws.

Most people who are racist in Australia are just ignorant.  I work with a few people who say bad things about some other people we work with, who are from Africa.  They don't understand that just because these people don't speak English as their first language doesn't mean they're not smart.  Two of them were nurses in Kenya before they emigrated.  Most people here who are racist are not very smart.

    Best wishes

  12. Australians aren't racist - in general. IF they are, why would so many people are queuing up to get into the country?

Like everyone else has said.. racists are everywhere in the world. You will have to expect that. But Australians as a whole don't care where you are from. If you treat us the way you want to be treated then we welcome you all.

I have been here over 30 years and I have NEVER had a personal experience of racism. I am of Asian origin.

It's a great country. You make of it what you will and it is a land where if you are willing to work at it, it will be give you a good life. If people come here and whine about how bad it is or how racist we are... well... they DON'T have to stay. No one is making them stay here. IF it is that bad... LEAVE!

    Cheers

  13. I don't think we are very racist at all. I grew up in Melbourne and most of the kids at my school were form other countries, so if I were racist, I would have had no friends lol.

Good luck in your move :-)

  14. I hate the word Racist as well and I am sure that we are not alone in that thought. But to the question, No most Australians are not racist, some may be misinformed or in denial but the people that are racist well I think that you could fit them all on the head of a pin.

Second is that Australia is the second most multicultural country in the world second to Israel (I think). So you will have a great many people that have the same Religion, Colour, Eyes or whatever over here so breath easy. Most will welcome you for who you are and how you act, not were you came from, how much money you have, what car you drive, what hair colour you have and so on.

The third thing is what your friend is talking about might be the Cornulla Riots which is a lone example of Racial Rioting in Australia, it happened because of the acts that a small amount of youths of Middle Eastern origin did was broadcast through the media, people were angered by what these people had done (disrespecting Australia and it's people for a start) and so gathered together to voice there outrage and well ..... mob mentality took over.

If you come over here and adapt to Australian way of life you will do well. By all means keep your religion, customs and language but adapt to Australian way of life.

  15. Like every country there are good & bad in all. I'm an aussie but was with an arabic muslim for 20yrs and I admit because of that relationship I am abit racist but it has nothing to do with what happened in america. I hated the way his parents had been here 40yrs and still didn't speak english & they'd talk in front of me and I'd hear my name so knew they were talking about me right in front of me. They never accepted me cos I wasn't Muslim & isn't god meant to be the only judge. Muslims and catholics & other religions believe if u r not one of them u will go to h**l, who r they 2 say that ? I always treat people kindly & when his mum had a stroke I had an 8 mth baby but went 2 the hospital everyday for 2-3hours 2 give his sister a break, yet when I had a spinal tumour & was paralysed they never visited once & I was in hospital 4 5mths. They even went 2 Lebanon & picked a wife 4 him when I was 8mths pregnant with my 3rd child. He's no innocent, he use to pray while he had heroin in his pocket because he was a drug dealer isn't that hypocritical? He wouldn't sell to arabics just white people as we were all going to h**l anyway. By the way he wasn't a practising muslim when we met, only when his brother bought over a bride from Lebanon & she got them all back into it. I do know a lot of muslims I like a lot but also know I'm never accepted by them.We have separated now but have 7 children together. Why is he allowed 2 take the boys 2 the mosque but I can't show them my religion ? It should be up to our kids to decide what they wish to be not their father. I'm glad u want 2 make friends with aussies u sound very nice & at least u r learning english thats a good sign already. Good luck don't b put off by me I'm just one story out of 20million.

  16. well most of them aren't but there can be those stupid patriotic dumbasses that believe anything.  p.s i dont mean all patriots are stupid just a few minority.

  17. Love all of the first answers...

I had been expecting all the "well what do you expect , they are the descendants of convicts" lines ...

OF course you will find some racist aussies ... but generally they are more MORONIC than racist as they have no idea what they are talking about .....

THE VAST majority of aussies are willing to give ANYBODY a chance and will help others  no matter what.

I spent a couple of days in Melbourne this week .. right in the hub and it's wonderful .. so many people .. so many different people .. and shuffled together like a deck of cards. In many groups of young people I saw people who were descended from many different peoples.

The key to getting along in Australia .. is to treat people the way you would like to be treated .. smile and be happy and helpful, kind and caring and YOU will receive the same back ..

act like a jerk .. and it wouldn't matter if you were 5th generation Anglo-aussie .. People won't like you.

  18. Even the racist Australians (and they exist, as they do in every society) say things like "Ahmed next door is great, but Muslims are...."  The point being that if you are a reasonable person and let people get to know you there will be little problem.  There will be a few ratbags (a great Australian term), but generally Australians are a tolerant and accepting folk.
